  • List your reasons why the contender will suck

Sylvester Stallone-Great in rocky and rambo but that goes far enough. I plan on counting how many times he slides his lip to the side.

90 minute premier-This will drag on and on and will be hacked to pieces and will dull out around the 45 minute mark. Should have kept it 60.

The majority of the show will now be centered around the fighter who committed suicide, most likely to pull in ratings.

5 round fights that WILL go against their professional records, I didnt know 5 rounds could get sanctioned but hey it is boxing and in boxing their is no set guidelines.

Instead of focusing on boxing in general, they will more focus on the lives of these fighters and expect big quarrels with wives and children and so forth. In reality it isnt centered around boxing and we will get 30 minutes of a fighter screaming at his wife and telling his kids that he loves them followed by an elimination contest.

To top it off, doing the same thing the next great champ did and made a mistake is just HIGHLIGHT the fights. NBC sent out a statement basically saying "Not to bore the general public, we will show highlights of the 5 round fights instead of the full detail."

GRADE: D- Would have received an F, but with the addition of Ray Leonard it gets a barely passing grade. (It may fail if his personality is ****ty)

Next Great Champ passed with a D+ The fighters had character and they seem to be not centering around any personal feuds in this stable of middleweights.

**** on Boxing reality, use those millions and put some good fights in a primetime slot You ****s!

I was looking forward to this, but after seeing the commercials (and reading your post) I'm not so sure now! There is another problem too, the premier is on MONDAY night (9:30)...uh, dont these fools know thats when "24" comes on? How they think they can go head to head with such a popular and established show and get good opening numbers is beyone me..I wont miss "24", even though I've been waiting on this for almost a year! I'm hoping it will be much better than DLH's show (which I did not watch cause I thought it would be ******) and it's regular night will be on a different night!

Whether you think Stallone is cool for boxing nowadays or not, it's a good move because people who aren't into boxing as much rather see him than Oscar. Stallone is like a movie icon from the past so people will enjoy it more with him at the helm. I don't know about dragging on. That depends whether it's good or not. Simple as that. If it starts out real nice, whose going to want to see it end? If not although we shouldn't hope for it to suck, then I guess being 90 minutes can drag on although most premiering shows are longer than their normal telecast time so they can get more stuff in to show what the rest of the show will be basically about. I don't think it's going to be centered around the suicide either. As it is, the guy doesn't show up on the show in the beginning they said. He comes in, afew episodes later. They said they didn't want to really make a big thing about it though they will honor him and whatnot and show the footage with that guy. Personally I think it would probably kill the show if they focus on him because it's like, boxing gets enough bad media and then a guy suicides after doing a boxing show. I dunno, not good. The rest of your points, are more or less correct. I will definitely watch the first showing to see if it's got anything going for it or not. Although the minute they decide to use dramatized music and camera angles for the fights like Oscar's show did, is the minute I turn it off without ever looking back. Cheers!

also, another reason people would probably prefer to see stallone than oscar, is the sturm bout. in my opinion, the show is destined for failure. people just aren't interested in boxing like they were fifty years ago, they are football fans instead. football,football,football...baseball,baseball,bas eball...basketball,basketball,basketball..most people could care less about boxing, and another failed reality boxing show will only prove this..

however you have that guy who committed suicide because of the show, and you never know what death will do to ratings, it could make em sky high or make the show extinct. we'll see.

The contender will be much better than you believe. They had announced that they were going to do the contender ans then delahoya got wind of it. So while stallones crew searches the country for the best fighters possible delahoya hurried found a few very mediocre fighters and put out a show first. The contender searchesd like 26 cities finding these fighters, the calibur of competition will be much higher than delahoyas, as will the talent of the fighters.

I went to the first audition in Detroit and sparred with Tarrick Slamaci who made the show. . Theres a long story involved with this but I wont get into it now. We used to spar all of the time at Galaxy, both being managed by the same person. They asked me back for 3 of the auditions but I guess I fell short 'cause i'm not on the show. Many of the best fighters in Detroit were there and I could only assume that it was the same around the country at the other auditions. It was like a riunion at these auditions. Many of the old Galaxy stable were there and , well, just everyone it seemed.

The contenders main purpose is not to just show fights, they hope to let the common person who never boxed know what a fighter will go through during preparation and training. Hoping that they may appreciate the hard work involved and what the fighters go through. I think this will be alot better than Delahoyas hastey production, the talent is much deeper in this show than The next great champ. The contender will be good for boxing, in my opinion..........Rockin'

if a reality show is what it will take to get more people involved in watching the sport than I say good. To say that all reality shows suck is a blanket statement. Like saying, no offense here guys, that all Brits suck. I am sure that there are some Brits that suck, the ones that I have met have been quite proper and friendly, but its the same everywhere. You have the good and you have the bad.

To make a statement that it will suck before even seeing the initial airing of the show is well, an uninformed decision. Just because delahoyas ****** doesnt mean that this one will aswell. Besides, the bouts that Delahoya had on his show, and the fighters aswell, were green to the sport. These fighters have had, from what I am told now, 12 pro fights or more. It might not land on the top 10 television shows of the century but it will certainly be better than Delahoyas. Give it a chance before beating the F**K out of it..........Rockin'

alright, you having said that, I realize we are on the same page.

hopefully it will increase the interest of the sport and bring it out of the cult stage it has sunken to..

I applaud anyone who tries to do it, like the guy from Chicago Bobby Hitz who's doing a great job with his promoting, all seats 35.00 he sells out every time, doesn't have many tomato cans on his cards either..he is also doing something great for the sport imo.
