Worst display of defense shown by a top 10 P4P fighter?

Ricky Hatton had awful defense vs Mayweather and Pacquiao where he was ranked #8 and #10 on The Ring P4P list respectively. Especially against Pacquiao. That was horrible. Going in chin first in every single attempt to attack Pacquiao. No regard for defense.

Corrales, #5 P4P, vs Mayweather was also very poor defensively.

Miguel Cotto, #7 P4P, had zero defense vs Margarito.

Antonio Margarito, #6 P4P, Mosley landed 50% of his power punches, which is considered extremely high.

Pacquiao, #1 P4P vs JMM, #4 P4P. 4th fight. If you look back at the RBR thread for this fight, you will see everyone in agreement: This was the worst JMM has ever looked vs Pacquiao. Pacquiao on the other hand, this was among the best I have seen from him. JMM was slow, loading up, and got hit with almost 50% of Pacquiao’s power shots. This was also the most aggressive Pacquiao looked since the first fight. The payoff of loading up and taking constant 5-punch combinations was first a KD by right hand and then a counter right hand that put Pacquiao to sleep worse than Pac himself did to Hatton. Still, JMM’s accuracy was awful, defense ******, punch speed ******. He just all around ****** that night. Watching the fight live, I remember being disappointed at the way JMM fought. But I was then pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Cotto had zero defense? I think he just got gassed by the 2nd half in the fight. He was making Marg miss most of his shots in the early rounds imo.

Mosley vs Forrest 1. Man Mosley got beat up damn near every round and every second of the fight.

Cotto had zero answers for Margarito’s power punches. In the very first round Margarito landed 40% of his power shots. Margarito was NOT an accurate puncher, at all. So landing 40% of his power shots in the first round, albeit losing it, was very telling of what was about to transpire. In the second round Marg landed 30 power punches, outlanding Cotto. As far as rbr goes, Margarito was outlanding Cotto in almost every round with meaningful shots, 9 out of 12 rounds.

You can see in the second round already, Cotto getting trapped in the ropes and using very poor evasive moves and just not blocking very well. Same thing in the 3rd, there he goes again, trapped on the ropes for prolonged periods of time. Trapped in the corner in the 4th. Trapped on the ropes and corner in the 5th. 6th. 7th. 8th. 9th. 10th. 11th. Trapped, cornered. Trapped, cornered. Trapped, cornered. Same thing every round.

Cotto was jabbing a ton, landing a ton of jabs. These jabs were ineffective vs Tony’s chin. The first 5 rounds where Margarito was throwing bombs and taking every jab and occasional power shot Cotto had, laid the groundwork for the 6th round and on.

I could not believe Cotto was favored and so many people thought he would win. I told everyone that listened, Cotto is getting KO’ed. Margarito was too big, too strong, iron chinned, and relentless for Cotto. I adamantly said, due to his poor chin and poor defense, there is no way Cotto wins this fight. And his poor defense was absolutely on display that night vs Margarito.

Seriously. Getting hit with uppercut after uppercut. That’s supposed to be a dangerous punch to THROW, due its miss rate. It is not the smartest punch to throw. Boxing is not Mortal Kombat for Nintendo. Margarito landed uppercuts at will. You do not see accurate fighters like Lomachenko or Mayweather throw too many uppercuts. They know it’s a silly punch to rely on and should only be used on occasion.

Cotto had no defense for Margarito’s slow, telegraphed uppercuts.

Maybe Froch? Cotto is definitely one where he just seems vulnerable to a good counter puncher or brawler.
