8 May 2004 - Who Would Have Thought?

    8 May 2004

Cotto escaped with a 12 round decision over Lovemore N'dou in a 140lbs scrap, raising his record to 20-0, 16 KO’s. Cotto boxed well while being pressed by N'dou. In the final rounds of the fight, N'dou had Miguel backpedaling, but Cotto had secured too many of the early rounds and was rightfully declared the victor. Cotto would go on to pick up his first vacant alphabet strap at 140lbs and then make a move to Welterweight.

In the main event of the night, Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao would engage in a 126lbs thriller. Marquez, down three times in the opening round, would get up and lock horns with the Filipino puncher, winning the majority of the remaining 11 rounds for a draw. The fight was bloody and brutal and would become the start of a path of destruction that both fighters would leave on their way to becoming the top two P4P fighters in the sport.

I bet no one could have envisioned, that 5 years later Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto would be stepping in the ring to fight each other in one of the most highly anticipated Mega Fights in recent history?

Yeah, I just watched it again last night. Pretty cool. I remember thinking the same thing when re-watching Oscar vs Castillejo; Manny stopped Ledwaba on the undercard that night in a 122lbs fight.

Haha that is pretty crazy, considering the differences in their weight back then too, no one would have fought they would fight each other one day.

And what's crazier is that Manny is opening as a 2-1 favorite to Knock Cotto TFO!

I thought those were the odds for Pac to win, not knock Cotto out. There is a difference.

Either way, the odds of a KTFO are greater than 1:1, in Manny's favor; says a lot considering, five years ago this fight would have never been imagined given the size disparity.
