With Spence-Pacquiao happening this August, and the WBO ordering Crawford-Porter, will Ugas defend his WBA title against Thurman this fall?
I could see Ugas wanting to wait and see if Pacquiao beats Spence, so Ugas could get a big payday in a unification against a 43 year old Pacquiao, but Ugas hasn't fought since September and got his title because Pacquiao was inactive during the pandemic. Thurman hasn't fought in 2 years, but he lost his WBA belt via SD. It probably wouldn't be an easy defense for Ugas or an easy comeback fight for Thurman, but it's the perfect fight for both guys. If Ugas wants to unify, he should prove he can beat someone coming off a 2 year layoff who barely lost the title Ugas holds. While Thurman has had so much time off over the last half decade that he needs to reclaim his old belt next if he wants to unify against Spence. Looking at the other options out there, I don't see a more interesting opponent that these two would agree to fight.
