In 17 fights the kid has only fought a whopping 28 rounds. He’s green as hell. TR/ESPN wanted to milk that 1st round KO streak as long as they could to build his hype. They basically stunted he growth in a way. The good thing is he showed that he can go 12 if need be. If any of the match makers at TR have half a brain, they’ll realize this kid needs rounds or he’s gonna get destroyed when a big opportunity comes his way

Perhaps they’re banking on his power to carry him to world champion status but there’s so many questions unanswered about Berlanga and have yet to get a good reading on how good he is

If you look at the WBA and WBO rankings were he's rated 6th-7th . He could beat at least half of the people ranked ahead of him . So yes if Canelo vacates all his belts after he becomes Undisputed I can deff see Berlanga becoming a Champion.

To say that Edgar Berlanga is a fraud, is going to far at this point in time in his career.
That after 17 fights he's still being scheduled for 8 round bouts, now that is definitely suspicious..
The boxing community has to understand that Berlanga has only fought one fight that has gone past the 1st round.
For all intents, and purposes he's only fought one fight, out of 17 where he has gained any experience.
His stamina, and over all boxing hadn't been tested until his last fight when he had to go the distance.
You can blame him for having to much power, or you can blame his promoter for not matching him against better opposition.
Coming to either of those conclusions you just might be wrong, because all of the other 16 opponents he knocked out weren't bums.
Many of them hadn't been knocked out in their career's until they stepped in the ring against Berlanga.
So there was no way that his promoter could've know before the fact that all of his first 16 opponents opponents would've gotten KO'd.
What we do know for sure now is that he has to be matched against the top 10 - 20 fighters in the 168 pound division.
No if, ands or buts about it, otherwise he will considered a fraud for not fighting those opponents who can continue to test his capabilities.
He should be returning to the ring in August, or September, and possibly get in another fight in December of this year.
Fighting, and winning against two top tier opponents would 19-0, then after another fight or two he should be fighting for the title.
The best case, and most lucrative scenario would have him challenging the title holder at 168 pounds on Saturday before the Puerto Rican
Day Parade of 2022,.
In Madison Square Garden in his 21st professional fight, in front of his home town crowd, that would be a mega bucks promotion.

What's not true is your is your reply to my post, these are the facts and you can look them up on Boxrec, and more importantly under the the stats therein.
Only 3 of his opponents were in their first fight, (not even close to almost all), and only 6 had multiple knockout's on their record prior to fighting Berlanga.
You can't look at his opponents records, and count the knockout's that they sustained after fighting him, because prior tyo fighting him those knockout losses
weren't on their records.
You can't even count the knockout they sustained against him, because they hadn't been knocked out by him prior to their fight.
Now I've explained it as clearly as I possibly can, if you still insist on making your false statement there isn't anything else to say.
Except to say, I don't know if Edgar Berlanga will ever win a championship, there are still a lot of questions for him to answer in the boxing ring.
I would definitely love to see him fight David Morrell, that fight would answer many of the questions that many fans still have about Berlanga's boxing career.

not gonna happen. Canelos gonna have all the belts come September. Unless he drops all the belts after becoming undisputed, Berlanga isn’t gettin a shot them anytime soon.

if anything he’ll probably get a shot at the secondary version of the WBA or WBC, paper titles. Aside from Canelo & Benavidez 168 is a pretty weak division. And none of the top 5 168lbers are with TR/ESPN so I doubt Berlanga gets a meaningful match up for quite a while

Let's see who his promotional team match him up with next, that will say a lot about just how much they believe in his boxing career.
It's going to be his 18th fight, and they have to match him up with someone who is rated around where he is, in a 10 rounder.

First guy he fought, was debuting, and of course berlanga knocked out, guess what, his next three opponents, knocked out too. He's 1-5 all loses by ko. The 2nd rival, another debutant, now he's 3-9 with 4 loses by ko. Third fighter, he is 9-10, all.loses by ko. When he fought berlanga, he had 7 of those 10 ko loses, already. The 4th fighter, debutant, 2 fights two kos. Let see the 5th, he suffered his first against berlanga, then another ko loss in his next fight. His next fight, the guy had a ko already in his resume, then loss another by ko. The next had two kos in his record, before getting ko by Edgard. Then two more. The 8th, two prior kos. Should I continue? The next one had 8 kos loses before he met berlanga. Do you really want me to keep on going? Just so you know, the following opponent had 4 kos loses before fighting edgar, all in all 9 loses by ko. Please man, I like the kid, but he hasn't fought a decent fighter.

I must see this Berlanga guy in some 10-rounders first and in 12-rounders later. he fights only bums he can knock out in first round. Will never get an experience that way.
