    Building the Canelo-Plant card.

What fights would you put on the undercard?

If I was matchmaking for PBC, I’d go:

Opener: David Morrell Jr vs John Ryder
Midcard: Leo Santa Cruz vs Eduardo Ramirez
Semi Main: Andy Ruiz Jr vs Luis Ortiz

Obviously this would be a pretty expensive and maybe unrealistic undercard but it would cater to the Mexican/Latino market and also provide a showcase for a potential Canelo opponent in the Morrell/Ryder winner.

Feel free to post your own card too…

Thurman said the WBA doesn’t for the Super WBA Champ do mandos. Why would Canelo fight Morrell Jr.? Haymon wouldn’t even waste an offer to stage Canelo vs Morrell Jr. There are better matchups that make sense. Gongora vs Morrell Jr. are entertaining filler cards on their own tbh. But even making that fight brings what monetary gain for a promoter?

I’m not sure tbh, Ortiz does rely on timing and that is usually effected with time off and as you say time really isn’t on his side in regards to age.

I could see him beating Ruiz though. Ruiz didn’t impress me whatsoever against Arreola, I thought he looked pretty awful actually. He should have showcased himself vs an older, arguably shot Arreola IMO. Reynoso will likely continue developing and improving him though. One of the elite coaches in the sport at the moment.

I agree that Ruiz will improve but even tho Reynoso is good what i believe is not all people can benefit from the same trainer.Personally I saw Ruiz as a better fighter under the training of Manny Robles. What do you think?

I’d use the undercard to get exposure for a supporting fight to set up the next card.

            Benavidez v Dirrell. Semi main.
            Ruiz v Ortiz
Leo Santa Cruz v easy return fight.

Was gonna put Benavidez on myself but he fights August 28th. It would actually be a good move if they could somehow move Benavidez vs Uzcategui onto the Canelo undercard.

Yeah I agree. I’m not sure Ruiz is technically skilled enough to box the Reynoso/Canelo style he was trying to implement vs Arreola. I’ll give him time though, maybe we’ll see some improvements in his next fight.

I thought for sure you'd have Dillian Whyte on your card

With the amount they are probably paying Canelo and to a lesser degree Plant, I highly doubt they would put Ruiz Jr vs Ortiz on the card, that would be a bigger fight than Ruiz vs Arreola which was inexplicably its own PPV. I wouldn't complain if they did, could be a decent gauge of where Ortiz actually is and would put Ruiz back towards the top of the contenders line. Unfortunately don't think it happens, even less so on an undercard.
