Ali struggled badly with underdog Wepner in 1975

That happened while Ali was the champ, the top dog of division. Wepner was also able to drop Ali and hurt him badly.

Just to remind ****** casuals that keep sayin "Fury was dropped by Pajkic and Cunningham" ( when Fury was not even a contender) and "Fury struggled with Wallin"...

It often happens that the best struggle with some fringe guys. It is boxing.

Ali was known as a bit of a lazy trainer, and he trained to the level of his competition at times.

Tyson Fury is similar in his approach to the game.

But? Since his comeback, he has clearly been putting in some serious effort.

And even still he struggled facing fighters who had a lack of credentials.

That is just Tyson Fury for you.

Note: Mentioning Tyson Fury & Muhammad Ali in same sentence or paragraph as champions is silly. Fury thus-far has been a extremely poor champion, he has still made zero defenses.

Yeah it's a fair point. Tyson's not one to go full tilt straight away for most of his career. Hell, some of Fury's fights are straight Wlad style snoozers. If he had a major advantage he'd use it until his opponent forced him to switch it up. Chisora just got tall man'd really. Not much else in their fights, or at least the second go stands out in my memory as a real snoozer because all Tyson needed was distance and jab and Dereck couldn't do anything about it.

Tyson tends to fight just above the guy he's fighting. Which actually speaks volumes as to how good Wilder really is. He can't be too bummy if he got Fury to 180 his whole approach. I do hope when/if they meet again Tyson does like he did last time and stays true to what he claims he'll do. Let's see that mack truck style out of Fury. Fury doing Marciano **** is damn interesting. I always said it'd be very interesting to see the kind of power output a big man gets from an absurd load like Marciano's, Mike's, or Frazier's. I doubt we see Fury take a crouch but even just a decent bend would be really cool.

However, most the time I see these fighters referenced it's not to knock Fury's skills but rather his ability to eat a punch or even rather get lulled in and eat a punch. That's true though, Fury was dropped by smaller HWs...pretty exclusively. Wilder's only considered a big HW in height and reach, weight wise he's right in there with Steve and Robocop. He's more than capable of turning Fury's lights off. He might have to do it 2 or 3 times though before Fury doesn't beat the 10 count.

wepner had a solid jaw and Ali didnt have big one shot power. Wepner ate a lot and kept coming forward and he fought a 1975 version of ali who was not as mobile as before. a younger ali would have used movement with him.

wepner's KO loss record doesnt really do his jaw justice being that he basically blocked punches with his face from far more skilled fighters. look at the beating he took from sonny liston and still kept coming:

Didnt help that Ali was also a head hunter. He should have went to the body more being that he didnt have the legs he used to in 75. Its not like Ali didnt put a beating on wepner, he did, wepner just kept coming like he always does until somebody stops him. Ali didnt effectively neutralize his aggression. In the liston video, liston maintained control of his distance while giving out his beat down.

This wepner fight is right after the Foreman fight, where he used the rope a dope strategy because his legs werent the same and he didnt have the stamina to move for 12 rounds. he got the win but he took a beating to get it using that strategy.
