With all due respect, there's a difference between coming in at a weight incidentally, and having to make that weight.

For example, Paulie Malignaggi - by all accounts - really struggled to get down to 138.5. So, yes. A pound or a pound and a half can make a big difference when it is your LAST pound.

      No?
So 2nd fight out of the last 3....hmm.....2 out of 3....but he hasn't fought Cotto YET....so we only count the 1 out of his last 3 right? So wouldn't that be only 1 fight? So again....1 = always now?

And Cotto weighed 146lbs. against Clottey....and he didn't look drained or shot from training. Losing 1 more lb. won't effect a "elite" fighter like Cotto.

DLH ***ed up by thinking if he weighed a certain weight a couple of weeks before fight night...(I think he was 145lbs 2 weeks before the fight right?) he could gain some speed and level the playing field which was Manny's biggest asset in that fight. Well...all that kangaroo meat and spinach balls didin't help him out.

I'm betting that Cotto handles the speed of Pacquiao early on and begins to rough him up, and eventually break him down by the 9th or 10th. Size wil be a huge factor if this scenario plays out. A man's natural frame is what it is...Manny can add bulk, but his bones and natural constitution are just smaller than Cotto's, and because of that, we WILL see Cotto backing Manny up. Both guys bring different attributes to the fight, but I don't think Pacquiao's speed advantage will be enough of a game changerf against the battle-tested Puerto Rican. Should be an excellent fight.

          Hence the "Mannyweight Division".....138lbs - 145lbs.....

I believe that Manny can cleanup the JrWW division....but will he do it no....only guy to give him even a remotely decent fight would be Bradley....but as I've said in another thread...Bradley has not power to hurt any elite fighter. (Bradley = Black Malinaggi) Yet if he goes to WW....he would be outweighed in the ring 10-15+lbs....so he truly has no business in there with WWs. BUT...I agree that in order to shut everyone up...fight Cotto at full strength (147lbs) and win or lose the fight...pac would still come out the winner.

            .
Take a deep breath, champ. The Cotto fight is made. Right? It's contracted.

It cuts both ways: if fans and the media are critical of the FMJ-JMM matchup (he hasn't fought Marquez YET), then it is fair game to be critical of the Cotto-Pac matchup. That whole goose/gander thing.

I think Miguel Cotto is going to be too strong
for Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao is fast and can
work the ring but he still has certain flaws that
leave him open. The thing is, I think Cotto can
take some punishment from Manny but not too
sure that Manny can take punishment from Cotto.
PLUS Manny ain't a defensive technician, he won't
be able to slip and slide Cotto for 12 rds without
getting hit. Cotto's going to put the pressure on
Manny like he did Zab. The only thing is that IF
Manny gets Cotto hurt like Zab had him then I
have a feeling Manny can finish Cotto BUT all in
all I think Cotto will be too strong for him.

There has been some concern from Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach because his fighter has not begun his training as of yet. [details]

I think Miguel Cotto is going to be fine. He always comes
to fight and has been fighting way bigger guys than Manny.
I don't see how people think Pac is going to destroy him?
Sure Pac has the skills to pull it off but Cotto has some skill
set and good power that can shake or break Pac easy.
