Comments Thread For: Jermell Charlo: I Don't Wanna Move Up To 160 Because That Contradicts My Brother

That's true to an extent, but most people weren't maxed out in the weight classes. I was 160 fighting at 165, for example, so if I had a large meal that day it was no big deal. For my boxing club it was whatever weight class your walk-around weight put you in, that's what you fought in. Now if someone happened to show up 1 or 2 pounds above the class that they were supposed to be fighting in that day, then sure, they'd run around a bit in the couple hours before the weigh-ins.
When I fought in the ams I was still growing, just like everyone else was, and had to cut weight to stay at the division I was in. You win a regional and need to be at the weight for the bigger chances. You don’t just win a regional and wait 8 weeks or 10 sometimes and not have to watch your diet and cut. Oh yes, the good Ol’ days of sparring and running with trash bags around me. Thank the Lord that is a thing of the past. People tend to over look the weight issues. It is far easier to watch than to be the one to participate, to say the least!Last edited by buge; 07-18-2021, 01:17 AM.Comment

Where we boxed it was a situation where there were some established guys at 132, so I had no choice but to keep my weight in check. The guys were damn big and good for the weight. But I gotcha on what you are saying.

why is it such a big deal. his brother wont even fight an ancient GGG, its not like he is unified champ or anything. They arent even good enough to be unified champs as we have now seen. they can share the division and bounce back and forth after one takes an L like the klitschko bros at heavyweight.Comment

Though in professional settings are completely different than the ams or stay busy sparring hobbyists. Most guys that spar, be it professionally or amateur, aren’t calibrated for pro fights entrances. The usual code is “light sparring” anyways. I spar guys sometimes 5-10lbs lighter than me to 20lbs heavier. You spar with the idea to improve techniques as your mate acknowledges it. Sparring isn’t even animosity unless it’s unusual circumstances or weird affiliations that cause animosity. For bigger guys I spar I like to focus on body work. For lighter guys i focus a lot of slipping and defense and jabs as their speed is faster.

with all this being said, I’m confused. Both Charlo’s competed at the same class at one point. It’s not like Jermall charlo has announced an Undisputed goal at 160, so I don’t see why Jermell can’t compete in another sanctioning body as they did before. Now if Jermell plans to go for Undisputed at 160 then it’s up to Jermall to move…Jermall seems to just eat more than Jermell anyways. Should be at 168. Canelo already did his fair share of milking or exploiting his weight classes before, others should do the same and park, compete, and stfu.Comment

Floyd is a tiny guy. He’s 5’7 and turned pro at 130 pounds....Jermell is 5’11 and has been fighting at 154 since 2009 and is only getting bigger. That’s why he doesn’t fight at 147 you complete casual.
Listening to you talk boxing is soooo cringe.
“5’7 Floyd that turned pro at 130 is the same size as 5’11 jermell charlo that’s been a 154lb fighter for last 12 years” is ur argument? Take your own advice and get the **** outta here. You don’t box, you know nothing about boxing, stop talking about boxing.Comment
