Canelo v GGG III in negotiations

Those are good points but I still want to see the 3rd fight
Nobody, yes - but the "good fight" was 3 years ago (and even then Golovkin was past his prime). If they fight again, it will take at least another 9 months from now - he will be 40 by then. And in the last 2 fights, it was just so obvious that he has lost part of his stamina and accuracy.Comment

My opinion is this. GGG is now reaching a time where he is considered far past his prime. Athletes that were once considered great are the last ones to acknowledge when father-time has caught up to them. I am a GGG fan, but I don't see this ending well for him as I can see a referee stoppage due to taking to many unanswered punches from Canelo. As sad as that would be to me, it's a strong possibility that results happens. GGG will never hit the canvas as he certainly has a out of this world ability to take punches and not even blink. Its either a lopsided decision or stoppage for Canelo.
Edit: GGG in my opinion won both fights by a sliver, but he is not or was not as marketable as Canelo at the time. Those two fights literally had me screaming I am never watching this sport again. Boxing politics suck!!!Last edited by mromano; 07-15-2021, 12:23 PM.Comment

Yes, my thought exactly. I think that is exactly what Canelo would be looking for - I assume he would also make that clear behind the scenes. I can also see a stoppage due to a cut (even if it's not actually a concerning one).

Canelo ain't the guy that does that and GGG ain't the guy that allows that so I can't envision that happening.
Now, a clear decision for Canelo, I can picture, but not a stoppage.Comment

Looking forward to a bet with you if that fight actually gets made (which I am not sure about, unless GGG wants/needs the money). I say GGG loses by TKO, but without a knockdown. It's the only thing that makes sense for Canelo's legacy. If Canelo is concerned that he might not get that TKO (but only a wide UD), which in his eyes would sort of avenge the first fight (which he knows most people saw him lose), he will not fight GGG, or let him age 1-2 additional years until he can be absolutely sure that GGG will gas in the later rounds.
For the record, I thought GGG won the first and lost a slim decision in the second, the second one being closer to a draw than the first.Comment

I’d like to see them settle the score even if Golovkin is a bit old and shop worn. Could still be an interesting fight and Canelo will have his best chance at beating GGG at this stage of their careers. Could be a brutal fight for both guys again or it could be more one-sided this time.Comment
