Why didnt Mayweather ever fight Vernon Forrest?

When vernon (RIP) was alive why didnt mayweather ever fight him. Forrest was a world champion for awihle there i remember, and from what i watched of him he was VERY fast, great movement and could be in the ring with mayweather any given nite.


Plus he was a great guy by what i saw from his interviews

Forrest at welterweight until 2003, when Mayweather was still at lightweight.

After a two year layoff while recovering from injuries, Forrest returned at 154 lbs, a weight Mayweather really had no business in and only fought once, because of the mega dollars to fight DLH>

That fight was never going to happen for a couple reasons:

1. Too risky of a fight for Floyd to take. Vernon was a big WW and didnt stay in the division long enough to compete on a long term basis. Plus, Floyd was still competing at Lightweight and Jr WW during that time.

2. Vernon, though did give Mosley his 1st loss, still wasn't a huge name...and if you've followed Floyd's career in the past few years, he necessarily doesn't gun for fighters who apparently don't draw (as if Marquez does either...get the picture?)

beat me to it..they were never close in weight or primes..this fight never wouldndve been possible
