  • Is Floyd Mayweather the worst boxing promoter of all time?

Leading up to his star fighter’s PPV show, Floyd Mayweather promoted his own PPV fight and even scheduled it weeks before his star fighter’s card.

Mayweather then stood next to his start fighter’s corner and talked over the professional boxing trainer his star fighter is giving a percentage of his purse too.

Late in the fight, with his star fighter LEADING on all three cards so widely that BARRIOS WOULD HAVE HAD TO WIN EVERY REMAINING ROUND AND SCORE THREE KNOCKDOWNS TO WIN, Floyd Mayweather tells his star fighter he’s BEHIND in the fight and makes his star fighter visibly upset.

I’ve never seen a promoter have such a visibly negative impact on a star fighter.

I personally don't think he's a good promoter at all. He somehow tries to make the fights about him. Getting involved in the corner, post fights, etc. He loves the spotlight and his ego will not let the people forget about him. As much of a criminal Don King is/was, he gave the people great cards. He would have cards with future potential opponents on the same bill. Then there was the December 2004 card in which you had Zab judah, Ruiz vs Rahman(a garbage fight, but 2 top hws at the time), hopkins/joppy (another fight not so great but 2 top mws at the time) all fighting. And lets not forget Tyson/Mcneely card that was filled with fights in which today, each of them would be headlining a saturday night(Hipp vs Selon for WBA hw, gonzalez vs murphy for lw wbc, taylor vs julian jackson for wbc mw, and tyson mcneely). Now you just get the bs cards from a variety of promoters that we are tortured to sit thru rubbish until the main event. I will give floyd credit for the Rosario vs Lubin fight though. Two top 10 guys of the division.
Hype job Hype job likes this.

He said he was down on the unofficial card ala Steve Farhood's, which was true at that time.

I'm not going to get into if he is worst promoter or not, but he does have a fighter who is doing numbers only a handful of fighters are doing stateside. By far the biggest name south of 147. Does he get credit for that? Could Tank be as big of a name if he wasn't linked to Floyd?

Hell no he isn’t. Look at Tank and look at Crawford. Tank is levels ahead of where Crawford was at Tanks age, and Crawford has fought his entire career on HBO and ESPN. Tank barely speaks at all. He could’ve easily became Crawford and he would’ve if it wasn’t for Floyd.

Floyd Mayweather fought three weeks ago.

                  Gervonta Davis fought yesterday.

If it seems like I’m talking about them a lot, it’s because it’s relevant to current events in the world around us.

How was he worse than Mayweather?

I don’t remember him taking over a corner.
