Comments Thread For: Lomachenko-Nakatani: Referee, Judges Named For ESPN+ Main Event In Las Vegas

Both sides of this weekend's main event in Las Vegas will be in the presence of familiar company beyond each other. Celestino Ruiz will serve as referee for the lightweight fight between Vasiliy Lomachenko (14-2, 10KOs) and Masayoshi Nakatani (19-1, 13KOs), which takes place Saturday evening on ESPN+ from The Theater at ****** Hotels Las Vegas. Chicago's Ruiz--who has regularly worked in Vegas since the pandemic, though not always to rave reviews--will be joined by judges Steve Weisfeld (New Jersey), Patricia Morse Jarman (Nevada) and Dave 'Not Carl' Moretti (Nevada) at ringside.

It's sobering to realize that the outcome of a fight in this sport is sufficiently affected by the makeup of a judging team to have an article written about it.

Celestino Ruiz, is a good referee for this contest. Ruiz, will catch Dirty-Chenko stepping on Masayoshi Nakatani's feet from the south-paw stance, like he caught that bum Jeremiah Nakathila stepping on Shakur Stevenson's feet to land bomb. But Vasily is very slick and will likely get away with plenty before he gets a warning, Masayoshi's chances have just increased to upset Vasily.
