Minto vs. Holmes: result wasn't changed

“It was a recommendation, not a ruling,” stated Greg Sirb, the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission (PSAC). The boxing media reported that the PSAC had changed the initial verdict of a ‘Technical Decision’ to a ‘No Contest’ decision regarding the outcome of the August 14th contest between heavyweight contenders Brian Minto and Donnell Holmes but it was revealed today that the “No Contest” status was only a recommendation and that a second hearing for the Minto camp will be held in approximately two weeks.
“I am relieved to hear that the ‘No Contest’ verdict was only a recommendation,” said Pat Nelson, the advisor to Minto. “The tape and the testimony of the referee (Rick Steigerwald) will prove that Brian was cut by a headbutt.” Minto concurred: “I know when I get a headbutt. The cut didn’t even require stitches because it was such a clean cut. The cut was straight up and down. A glove tears you skin,” explained Minto. “Brian controlled the fight from the opening bell,” said Nelson. “You can watch the tape and see that Holmes would have been knocked out in another round!”
