By Lyle Fitzsimmons - It's official. The race is on. To see which boxer will step up this summer to claim whatever oxygen is left in the room by the time the retired Hall of Famers and social media toe-dippers have retreated to the background. Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul reportedly bagged more than a million buys for their eight-round spectacle earlier this month in Miami, meaning the bar is set pretty high for those coming next.

Nobody needs a real fight in boxing more than Charlo. Since moving to 160, his competition has been the kind of names you would laugh at if he was any other name. While his brother has a good, nearing great, resume at 154, he has done zero in this division. He is obviously talented and I do not doubt his ability to rumble with anyone at MW, at some point he has to prove it, right? Lopez is fine. That win over Lomachenko has assured he will be respected moving forward. Of course he will need a few more big name matches, but he has proven his worth and his marketability.

What I think works in both these men favor is neither is afraid to assume the "heel" role in a sport that so completely needs them. They will be able to sell tickets because people want to see them lose, kind of like Mayweather or Andrew Golota in his run. That bodes well for a big matches.

Fitsimmins has always seemed to me a shameless and biased journalist.

he made a decent attempted comeback from the Wilderness with the Chenko won, but has gone back to his old ways

What a joke. Lopez's fight is forgivable he fought Loma in his previous fight, but Charla? His career is a joke, all he and his fans do is cry and whine about not getting that big payday fight meanwhile make excuse after excuse for not unifying and fighting these type of fights.

And that’s exactly the problem with boxing. The title says it all. Too many easy weekends... while old times and football players and basketball players and youtubers are laying it all on the line and fighting like their next meal is on the line.

If Charlo doesn't put Montiel away in a few rounds, he would have disappointed. I wouldn't pay to watch it though.

He needs to get better fights than staying in the PBC bubble.

Charlo has had only 1 above average opponent since moving up, how many easy fights does he need?

Jermell is clearly the more ambitious one and that has become more evident over time. One is now fighting a nobody and the other is uniting against a top AM and unbeaten pro title holder.
