Just because he doesn't have an issue with it doesn't mean it wasn't a terrible decision from the ref, which it was.

Ref's no doubt have a hard job deciding when to stop a fight, people will say it is too early or too late, but when the corner throw the towel in the decision is made, all the ref has to do is respect it. Did anyone have an issue with the ref stopping the Wilder fight when Fury was tuning him up and his corner threw the towel in, of course not.

Ritson was shot, he wasn't winning that and his corner knew it, what was the point of the ref letting him take some more punishment before stopping it a bit later? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot for no reason.

Theatre of the unexpected. Anything can happen if you give someone a chance. There was a lot on the line too, it wasn't just some meaningless 10 rounder. It's not like he couldn't breathe or his ribs were broken. Nor was he getting his head rocked. He wasn't staggering around out on his feet either. Yeah it wasn't likely he was going to pull it off but maybe in an alternate universe he would have caught Ponce while he was opening up. Deserved a chance I thought.

If the fighter is permanently hurt or disabled after the towel went back, public opinion will crucify the ref. Whereas if the fight is stopped, the pressure is on the corner. The ref only wins if the losing fighter suddenly KOs the other fighter - and chances of that happening are really slim. If you can stop the fight without catching the blame from the public, why not do it? We are not in 1970s, boxer's health takes priority over entertainement.

Am pretty sure if it was the other way round then that same ref would have stopped Ponce. He wanted to give Ritson a punchers chance, and see if he can turn it around. As pointed out by you that is a dangerous precedent once that towel came in, his explanation about "Bodyshot" etc doesn't make sense neither. Yes refs have a hard job to do, so why this ref felt the need to complicate his own job is beyond belief.

Seems crazy and dangerous that the ref chose to ignore the wishes of the corner with regards to the safety of their fighter.
