Poor Oscar has a massive void in his life that being a promoter cannot fill, just like Floyd.
An exhibition would be ok but to even think he could mix it at world level is a pipe dream.
Good to see him looking so fit and healthy at 48, the thing about training at that age is you think your working as hard as you did when you were young but the realisation is it's just harder because you are older.
I'm in my 50s I talk from experience.

Even Oscar fighting Sturm wasn’t his prime. This prime version of Canelo, cause DLH is way bigger than Duran and Duran went to 168, would KO Oscar.
Oscar was still in his prime at 154 (vs Vargas, Mosley 2, Campos), Canelo at 154 was a bit green.

154 version of Oscar would beat 154 version of Canelo.

How old was Oscar at 154? How old was Canelo at 154? Prime vs Prime Canelo is the superior boxer doesn’t matter the theory.

One was ineffective at 160 (Oscar), and the other was still perfecting his craft at 154 (Canelo), but these are the only 2 weight classes where we can sorta compare the two.

Canelo definitely the better middleweight, Oscar edges out at 154 though.

Prime for prime i think is a good debate, the biggest difference between prime Oscar and Nelo isn't skill imo, but power.

Canelo's power carried up really well, even if he is losing he can change a fight around with one shot, where as the last weight class Oscar's power was truely effective at was 147.

Oscar De La Hoya’s physique, genetic, isn’t as stocky as Canelo. Canelo is naturally a stocky guy since early teens, so his athleticism has the advantage against Oscar. Even Canelo at 147-154 is really fast given his physique, and is more durable than Oscar. Oscar has fought the more memorable names/ guys so far, but Oscar is WAY BIGGER than SRL and Duran. Both SRL and Duran fough at 168 so what’s the excuse?

Oscar, as Freddie Roach described, would do his IV’s before the fight. He was a lot bigger on fight night than his weigh ins for several of his classes wouldn’t u agree?

so the fact is that Oscar COULD go up and bulk if he wanted to just like RJJ or Toney but he chose to stay in his comfort zone. Recall a fight from Oscar where there was a fight size disparity like Canelo vs bigger guys? Doesn’t exist unless we say Sturm or Hopkins…but even those weren’t awkward in size like Canelo vs as of late. This is why Canelo is the better fighter.

look at Oscar shadow boxing now. He’s like 200lbs stocky

Oscar looks serious about getting into general shape even if he may not be in boxing condition. Look at that background. Is that his backyard? I don't know if a person can really get motivated in that atmosphere. Like Hagler said, you can't wake up in satin sheets and expect to be tough. If Oscar can come back and do some damage in the ring it will be a great story.
