If you get a ref in there other than Cortez, Jones hits Hopkins all night long, when the ref isn't busy pulling Hopkins off of Jones.
you need to rephrase that again because his offensive game was way better than it was now however his defensive abilities have risen.

While I agree the TS is a laod that should have run down a leg or been swallowed like the rest he has a point to some extent. I do not htink RJJ quit he was puzzled and bothered by a cut that wouldnt stop or that his corner couldnt stop the bleeding on. Being a man with super human abilities it is hard to adjust when you realize or someone makes you realize you no longer posses those abilities or at least they have diminshed to apoint where you are no more human. It is hard seeing our heros and sport figures we look up too go through what Roy went through and it was amazing that he was able to get a fight like that after suffering 3 llosses and 2 devastating KO's. We all know he is not what he used to be but to deny he was ever great only shows your true inability to appreciate the sport which you claim to love. He never quit in that fight he did go into survival mode with a badily battered eye and a world class opponent across the ring but he didn't quit. he could have told the reff and the rdoctor he couldn't see he couldn't continue. He didn't do that.....Lefty

Roy got beat by a younger fighter.

I'd like to see Joe come out of retirement and fight someone who isn't 100 years old

Let alone cut his normal workrate in half.

Did you see the handspeed against Pavlik?

All Kelly could do was stand there and cover up.
LOL, I think you and I seen a different Calzaghe-Hopkins fight. The fight I saw, Calzaghe was quicker in combination punching, and anytime Calzaghe wanted to open up Bernard Hopkins went into a shell and clinched like a mini John Ruiz.

Bernard was and is good at disguising his punches. He's pretty quick with the single shot, but his combinations are few and far between. His defensive tactics are a lot different now that he's older. He never used to rely on so much hugging in his younger days.

Kelly Pavlik? Kelly Pavlik is slow and one dimensional.

RJJ would own the center of the ring were these guys to fight again, when Hopkins isn't clinching and mauling on the inside.

As it stands, get a ref other than Cortez and RJJ wins a close UD.

Sure, when it comes to hugging like a mini John Ruiz. To me, that is stalling a fight, especially when you do it in excess like Hopkins did against Calzaghe.

                Throwing slaps isn't combination punching.

Mate seriously... i think you're the minority that thinks that Calzaghe was throwing any kind of combo on Hopkins and connecting. He won by being busy, simple as.

Why is it all of a sudden that Kelly Pavlik is slow and one dimensional after he fights Hopkins? I remember quite clearly before the fight 90% of journalists stating that Hopkins would be knocked into retirement. Why did that not happen? Did he hug his way to a victory? Please. Seriously.

Roy Jones own the centre of the ring. Hah. Before the cut in the Calzaghe fight, Roy couldn't commit himself to punch because he was scared of getting hit (apart from R1). It's quite clear that Hopkins throws a much stronger punch then Calzaghe. It's even more blatant that RJJ has not got a very good chin.

A 2nd fight between Hopkins / RJJ would be very similar to Tarver / Jones 3 but worst. RJJ would get hit by Hopkins, schooled and quit whilst standing.

                End of thread.

As a roy fan i have to say i dont think for a second that hes back not for one minute, but i do think he looked very good against lacy easy or not, a lot better than he has in his last 4/5 fights. He is way past his sell by date its just nice to see him put on a show like he did and i dont blame people for getting giddy over it, everyone does it when there fighter puts on a boxing lesson against a bigish name

i say bigish because lacys name has not been the same since calzaghe, but to the casual fan he could be considered a big name still.
