Not just the linage, but when that happens you typically have all four belts up in vacant title fights. That means EIGHT guys could potentially become world champion, majority of whom weren't even deserving of a title shot when "the man" was still there. It's why I've always said I wanted guys to stay at their weight and reign over them instead.

I'd like to see these unified champions stay at the weight and reign over it too.

Promoters like Bob Arum won't like it, though. The champion would have to do rotating mandatories with each sanctioning body. Which means a fighter from a rival promoter might get a title shot, and we can't have that can we?

As always it boils down to the promoters protecting their interests, which go counter to the interests of the fans.
