This is a good fight for Haney (finally). It will let him know if he’s going to be great or if he’s just average good. Only fight ive looked forward too in the last year. Well, besides Cambell vs Garcia.

Didn’t have to fight anyone for his fake email belt champion Devin Haney (25-0, 15 KOs) and a real former world champion who actually beat champions to earn his belt Jorge Linares (47-5, 29 KOs) took part in the 14-day weigh-in - as mandated by the WBC.

        There....fixed it.
        Thank me later

Devin fought for an interim title and a mandatory spot. When the champion vacated the belt instead of fighting him he was justifiably elevated to champion. How is that any different than when Loma fought for the vacant title?

He didn’t rate an interim nor a mandatory spot. His opposition record prior to being hand wrapped and gifted his email title was 185-155 which is pathetic. His opponent for the interim was 11-0 (not even a contender).

Loma (don’t even know why he was mentioned anyway) his opposition’s record at the time he fought for the vacant full title at featherweight was 90-15 and was against an actual rated boxer in GRJ. He then goes on to defend the title against oppositional opponent combined records of 101-7. This means that within his first 6 fights his opposition’s combined record was better than all of Haney’s first 22 fights!

I could continue this into the other divisions he fought within but I think you get the idea. Haney is laughed at within boxing circles because his opponents have been an absolute jokes. There’s a reason even boxers call him the email champ.

Both these guys seem ready. Linares is running low on chances. He may not be gate keeper level yet, but a loss here definitely pushes him to where he will have to earn a title shot through younger talent moving ahead. That is an unfun place for a boxer to be.
