What’s happened to the US boxing team?

Why is there only two male boxers being sent to Tokyo?
Is it simply not enough guys qualified? Is there a lack of funding?

It’s sad to see US amateur boxing in such a bad state. My two favourite Olympic boxing teams are USA 84 and 88. This has to be the worst US team ever.

Finding a boxing gym isn’t easy

you either seek boxing out or have it forced upon you by family

No one worth their salt is going to go the Olympic route in the US anymore. They’re all jumping to the pros.

The lack of headgear and the tough competition is those tournaments are a deterrent.

Now that there isn’t a false sense of security from head protection, everyone is going to go pro to pick and choose their opponents.

Castro and Davis both turned pro.

The US amateur boxing is actually in a solid shape. There were many more that were going to go to Tokyo had the Olympics taken place last year instead of this year.

Why have the others not gone then? Is it simply a schedule or travel conflict or something like that?

A lot of the predicted Olympians from last year have turned pro. Castro, Davis, Ford and Ragan have all turned pro. Ford in particular hasn't looked impressive in the pro ranks but they were all good amateurs.

Majority of those fighters have turned pro.
