Double Standards and Implicit Bias in Boxing

How come all I hear is that "Billy Ho is undefeated, he must be so great, he is an UNDEFEATED CHAMPION, this makes him an amazing credential on a resume."

Viktor Postol was an undefeated champion. Yuriorkis Gamboa was an undefeated champion. Julius Indongo was an undefeated champion. Jeff Horn was an undefeated champion. Jose Benavidez was undefeated.

Yet all I hear is that these guys are bums.

How come a win over the very flat footed and very basic David Lemieux make BJS miles ahead of these champions???

You say that Terence Crawford resume is more like GGG resume than Canelo Alvarez. But what undefeated champions has GGG ever beaten???

I think Billy Joe Saunders is very good. His win over Lemieux would be Canelo’s fourth best win.

But I also think Viktor Postol is very good and arguably better than any of the PBC welterweights, hold Errol Spence. At the time Crawford beat him, he was above where Saunders is now.

Gamboa was also a pound for pound type fighter. He was better than BJS is now.

Julius Indongo fell apart after the loss to Crawford but many others have fallen apart after their loss to Canelo. He was about the same thing as BJS is now.

Jose Benavidez is a very good but unproven fighter. But if he fought and beat a Sergey Lipinets type he’s about the same thing as BJS.

Conversely

Canelo has taken 8 - 0's and 4 of them were championship fights.

Fury has taken 5 - 0's and 1 in a title fight.
