Comments Thread For: Canelo Makes Good on Prediction He Would Become Biggest Thing in Boxing

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez looked shyly at the small assembled table of boxing journalists and greeted them all with a nod. It was late 2010 and those reporters were being told that he was the next big thing. They were all in town to cover a big Golden Boy show and it was that company's opportunity to rave about how the red-headed Mexican was the spearhead for all of their future plans.

Yes indeed clenelo is the face of boxing but all this cherry picking is a complete joke. Khan, Chavez jr, Kirkland, Angulo, L. Smith, no heart Jacobs, weak Fielding, weak and shot kovalev, weak C Smith, pathetic Yildrim and now the walking punching bag Saunders. Next is Plant, Lemieux and old and slow ass lil G trilogy. Good GOD this is pathetic.

Isn't it funny that dispite all your criticism of Canelo's opponents. His resume is still better that everyone else's on the active p4p list by miles.

Isn't even funnier that even some of the fighters you mentioned have better resumes than some of those currently listed in the p4p list.

You can hate all you want but at the end of the day, Canelo is doing way more than the rest right now and that's why his peers, the media, and the fans put him where he is at.

Wake me when this guy fights Charlo, Benavidez, Beterbiev or Bivol. Until then he's a boring, decision fighter, who is using his A side power to create very favorable matchups.

TMT fanboy criticized resume yet we've gotten Andre Berto, Conor McGregor, Robert Guerrero

Hilarious it started w/ Amir, IVfloyd ducked poll results & chose flat-footed Maidana + finally chose Pacquiao after JM KO

undefeated tall ass Callum Smith "weak" ok Alvarez goin' backwards fighting threats 1st, Plant remains towards undisputed doe, biggest shark w/ Canelo.

Bivol looked not amazing last time out vs Richards , Charlo (the bigger one) is fast becoming a joke outside the cult of PBC , Beterbiev may beat him but he's just bigger why not make Clanelo fight Fury then .. same argument.

Clanelo (and the Charlos) deserve some grief for drug testing but his record is superb.

From when I first saw him badly hurt against Jose Miguel Cotto, and through all those (IMO) unexciting developmental fights against N'Dou, Hatton and Rhodes, I couldn't see what the hype was about. Only in the Trout fight did I realise "Whoa, this kid's good!" That Alamodome atmosphere was electric back then, and we all know it'll be on fucking FIRE tonight. That crowd will be poppin' mad.

I heard an interview where bellew said that canelo is like the “Thanos” of boxing, I thought it was Absurd at first, but at later reflection I think he could have a decent point. I can only commend Saul for the Job he’s done after his Loss to Floyd, exceptional. He’s who I tell all young fighters to study.

I still want Billy-Joe to win with all my Heart though. I just want a Fair Shake for BOTH men. God bless both of these warriors, risking their health for our entertainment, and Ensure that both man leave the arena with all faculty’s intact. And lastly, THANKYOU to both guys for giving us what we wanted to see!!

Excellently put. This is by far the truth. He not doing a Spence and Crawford blaming anything and everything under the sun to why they can’t fight.

im backing Saunders but make no mistake about this right now, Saul Canelo Alvarez is the DON.
he calls the shots, and unlike past fighters in same position, he’s chasing greatness and consistently taking on the best of guys. Anyone who disagrees surely cannot watch this sport obsessively like some others.
