Nobuhiro Ishida in Line For Santos vs Foreman Winner

In a move that makes no sense, Japan's Nobuhiro Ishida was crowned the WBA's interim-junior middleweight champion after winning a decision over Marco Avendano of Venezuela. The fight was set down by the WBA because full champion Daniel Santos has been unable to defend his title since winning it last July. [details]

Nothing the WBA does surprises me anymore. If anything, it makes perfect sense.

So the WBA puts up two aging clubfighters who have never won a meaningful contest and call it a "title fight" just to get extra sanctioning fees. Ishida may officially be the worst of the 75 or so "champions" today. Ranks right up there with the WBC putting 30-11 Tomas Rojas in with 32-13 Everardo Morales for the interim superfly title in July. Pretty soon every other fight is going to be for some type of title

WBA has had some great champions but they have also created some of the absolute weakest champs in the history of the sport.
