Neither Ruiz or Parker have a sixth gear

Both Andy Ruiz and Joseph Parker have a fatal flaw.

They lack to desire to close out fights and kick things into “sixth gear.”

    Both showed it on Saturday.

Joseph Parker never pressed to steal the late rounds. He was content leaving his fate up to the cards... in a close fight on the road.

Andy Ruiz did the same thing, in a fight he was knocked down in. While he got wide cards, many of those rounds were very close and a score around 115-112 would have seemed very fair.

They both showed this issue against Anthony Joshua.

Parker seemed content to stay on the outside with Joshua and lose a boxing match that many could look back on as a close effort. He seemed happy to go the distance.

While trailing Joshua very widely, Ruiz also seemed content to make it to the end and lose on the cards.

They showed this issue against each other.

In what was a dead even boxing match (an outcome still debated by many fans), neither Ruiz or Parker found sixth gear and seemed content to let the judges decide their fate in a close fight.

They’re both going to get out hustled by an overachiever someday.
