Look at Kelly and how quickly he gassed out. 3 rounds and he was done. He was in awful shape. For a fighter to be in the toughest fight of his career and with a puncher, he's going to need to be at his best. He uses lots of movement so that's going to have him gas quick if he isn't in shape. Avanesyan is a puncher so doesn't need to use much movement so can conserve his energy. Josh easily won the first 3 rounds. But it wasn't due to lack of skill he was beaten as you saw, it was his stamina where he came undone.
Go and look at Robbie Davies Jr before and during the pandemic. Now he's not a top fighter, but he's decent at European level. Against the Mexican, he looked the worst out of any of our fighters. Even worse than Warrington if you think that's even possible. But it's true. Go to Youtube and just take a few moments to see the difference in his flow, movements and how he's throwing punches. Look at the difference in his defence. His balance. He was terrible.
The one who had got some work and was more prepared than any of these due to having a couple of fights, was last week with Tennyson. He would have been fine had his opponent been Orthodox. But no, he was a bloody Southpaw. And you should know yourself how hard it is to get good Southpaw sparring at the best of times. Forget how bad it would be in a pandemic where you can't bring anyone in, you can't pass from gym to gym from within the country. You have to be in a bubble with whoever is in your camp so it makes it all a case of "Making do" because you have no other choice unless you want to spend the whole period of the pandemic out of the ring. But they need money, so they can't really take that choice.
Every time the Mexican has had all the advantages. Every time. I've made big money by betting against all these fighters. It's quids in when you know what you're looking at. Josh Taylor only having 1 round in 19 months is another. You couldn't give me any fighter in American boxing history where they were an undefeated champion having a unification and being so badly prepared for the fight. I'm not saying it's a complete guarantee with this one, but it's 80% good at the bookies. I'd jump on it like i have if i were you if the odds are still good for Ramirez. I haven't lost yet with the bookies. It's like Christmas with all my winnings. I've never had the opportunity like this before to pick up what i consider to be easy money. I'm not even a gambler either. Only when the odds seem stacked in my favour do i go with the punt.
As for other countries like the US. You pick carefully like always. Everything is looked at to make sure the American has all the advantages in their favour. Only a few fights where it looked like both fighters where in the same boat and it was even. But never at the disadvantage. Style even comes into it. The only one that didn't get over the line was Breazeale. But that wasn't a mistake from Haymon putting him in there with Wallin. Haymon actually did so because he wanted Wallin to win. He wants as much connection to the top fighters as he can get. With Wallin having a good fight with Fury, Haymon can use that down the line to get a payday and hopefully more like he did with Ruiz and AJ in the first fight. Breazeale doesn't offer Haymon those odds. He's already been beaten by AJ and Wilder, so he doesn't think he can get any more out of him. He feels he can with Wallin.
Tell me which American fighter you think was at a disadvantage during these times? And don't give me Spence against Garcia. That's for a different reason. A gamble yes, but Danny is done at world level and has a style that suits Spence. I wouldn't have gone that road myself due to the accident and would have wanted to make sure with a gimme that Spence was good to go. No point in taking that kind of risk when you don't know what is going on with him. Remove that with a fight beforehand and the mental aspect of it all, and i would have picked Spence to dominate like he did. Everything else was with Spence though when you break it all down.
