Why is Jose Uzcategi in a WBC eliminator?

He’s 2-2 in his last four fights, his two wins coming against someone who was 20-28-2 and 10-9-1. One of his losses was to Lionel Thompson.

Now he’s one ****** upset win away from being Canelo’s mandatory. (I don’t think he’ll pull it off, but still.)

    Yay boxing!

I wondered that too but then again it’s kind of typical for PBC to recycle fighters like this. Keeps the risk low.

But doesn’t the WBC have to decide that Uzcategi is an ideal candidate for being a number one contender?

Its super weird that this is an eliminator and not a standard fight.

The way it works is that PBC goes to WBC & tells them that Uzcategui is the only ranked fighter available whom they will agree to show on tv vs Benevidez,& the WBC then agrees to make it just the latest sanctioned mismatch opponent for Benevidez. It amazes me how much hype Benevidez gets & how many bums hes been able to get away with facing while getting a free pass from everyone.

He had the WBC belt twice & the only decent fighter hes faced was Dirrell, meaning he was literally gifted a title for fighting the worst bums imaginable,& then again allowed to fight bums for another title (same belt) then now hes again being allowed to fight another bum for a shot at the belt. The WBC is a pos,

Who should Benavidez have faced that he didn't when he was WBC Champ?

My point is that for all his undeserved hype & for having held the belt twice, his resume is garbage. He doesn't deserve any of the hypetrain he gets imho, regardless if he has excuses or not, it's all on him as far as im concerned & I think its rediculous that hes once again gonna get a title shot for beating Plants leftovers.
