they have little intros and interviews with the children asking what they want to be. A lot of them want to be baseball players or do something that changes the world and it got me thinking we don't have that in boxing. When is the last time you heard a younger child especially one that isn't the offspring of a former boxer say "I want to be a world champion"? Now I know boxing has shot itself in the foot many times and that is why its popularity has faltered but we never see kids say that and I think its a damn shame.
The sport of boxing needs to implement itself back into college sports and even branch out into high schools. I know what some people will say, "Oh its to violent" but I whole heartedly disagree with that. The sport of boxing is safe as long as its under supervision and taken seriously(we need correct teachers, boxing and PT trainers). As long as we treat the sport in the schools as an amateur sport, where we wear head gear, the sport could thrive with the younger pupils.
Along with being a great sport it would also teach the young ones discipline. Above any other main ****** sport in America especially, is there any sport that forces a student of the game true discipline. The whole sport of boxing is built upon respect for yourself mentally, your body physically, and the man you are pitted up against in the ring.
Also, do not forget that it would help children be in shape and teach them something more important then something much greater than a meaningless football game. It would teach our children self defense and how you should carry yourself in a tough situation on the streets.
I say lets get these kids active and into the great sport of boxing instead of Nintendo Wii. If wrestling can be accepted into the high schools across the country why cants boxing? No one can argue this especially if you cite the amount of deaths or critical injuries on the field in football.
Thanks
