There was a fighter named Guts Ishimatsu, awkward japanese guy that fought in 70s. he fought Duran, De Jesus, Buchanan...It was difficult to look good against him.

You just want names of Japanese fighters? that's it? There's 2 of them in the P4P top 10, so that's a good start. Boxing over there isn't like it is here. Matchmakers throw you to the wolves. It's sink or swim. 3-0 Ryosuke Nishida is a top prospect, so they just threw him in against 17-1 former WBC champion. Kosei Tanaka just challenged for his fourth title in his fourth weight class at only 25 years old (16th fight) (His fight the prior year against Sho Kimura was a pretty consensus top 3 FOTY) Ioka's return to 115 is just adding more fuel to an already hot division, and Naoya Inoue is the Bantamweight king right now. Even Shinsuke Yamanaka was a P4P talent for a few years before his retirement. Guys are missing a lot of action ignoring the lower weight classes.

Up until 10 years ago or so the JBC only recognized the WBA and WBC belts. Winning the IBF or WBO was meaningless, so it was pretty easy for guys to just avoid a top japanese fighter.
