There are so many wastes of Talent in H/W boxing!

I'm just going to state some wastes of talent and you can agree or disagree or add your own in if you want too. They are wastes for different reasons, and on different levels. and they are in no order.

    1. Tommy Morrison 6' 2" 230lbs

Tommy Morrison was a tough, big, good looking white kid from the states. He was a pretty smart guy and an entertaining fighter. He actually won a couple of alphabet straps so his career wasn't a total waste. Tommy's main problem was a very bad chin, he got put down a lot and ko'd a fair few times. He was the kind of fighter who you know is going to get ko'd during their time in boxing and you just have to get over that.
Sadly Tommy had his carreer cut short when he was told he had HIV. It seems now that tommy never had HIV and it was all a mistake which is a shame, but I am just glad that he is alright, there is more to life than boxing after all. It seemed like Tommy was going to make a comeback, but for one reason or another it never really happened.
It's a shame because Tommy Morrison would have been in his mid 30's when Wlad and Vitali first came to prominence. Young Wlad vs Tommy Morrison would have been a great heavyweight fight but it never happened due to doctors mistakes.

    2. Audley Harrison 6' 5" 250lbs

Oh dear. What the hell happened here? Audley Harrison won the olympic boxing gold medal in 2000. He was unsurprisingly Hyped to high heaven. But sadly Audley so far just doesn't seem to have what it takes as a pro boxer. He at times seems scared to get hit and this is a huge problem. Audley has good size, power and skills, and he showed against Danny Williams in a rematch that he could be devestating if he fought with passion and desire. He also has a questionable chin after he was knocked out by Sprott. Harrison is going to fight in Prizefighter and if he wins, and wins well, he may still have time to achieve something as a professional. but its a BIG if.

How can you mistake someone having HIV?

They got his blood tests wrong.

He hasnt been sick in the almost 15 years since, not even a runny nose, and he has been retested numerous times and all tests come back neggative for any trace of the hiv virus

        3. Shannon Briggs 6'4" 255lbs

Now I know a lot of people will probably not think of Shannon Briggs as a waste of talent, and will instead say that simply he didn't cut it at the top level. I don't think this is true. Shannon was an exciting fighter and in my opinion he had a good chin, and good power and brawling skills. Shannon has Asthma which is difficult for him to box with but he tries hard which is commendable. Sadly he also comes in very heavy, this causes him to gas out very early and as a result he has lost a lot of fights. A big, strong and well conditioned Briggs would give anyone a good fight in my opinion, its just a shame we never saw the best of him.

        4. Andrew Golota 6'4" 240lbs

Andrew Golota is a real enigma, he can be an agressive destroyer one minute, and a nutcase the next. A fully focused, motivated and disciplined Golota would have been a force to be reckoned with. Look at the way he twice destroyed Rid**** Bowe, before inexplicably handing bowe the victories on low blows. Also look at his fight with Mike Tyson (a fight i think golota could have won) he had a mental breakdown and stormed off! Golota has become the butt of a lot of jokes, and it's a shame. he is another fighter who could have made the last few years in heavyweight boxing more interesting than they have been.

Smaller guys who balloon up and down in weight usually end up making their weight anyway and you presume they trained hard to do so, although they might do some really unhealthy things to make weight.

Heavyweights don't have a weight to make so some of their discipline problems are well known to us. We just look at them and see how fat they are.

Morrison absolutely DID NOT waste his talent. He went straight tothe top of the game.

Lamon Brewster. After he destroyed Golota in one round, I really thought he had something. Then the eye injury and this last loss, he may just not have it anymore.

                Where's Lennox Lewis?

                He wasted his talent.

What he really didn't have was defense.

Let's not go down this road. Morrison announced his comeback several years ago but has not fought as of lately because he doesn't want to apply for a boxing license. His reluctance to apply for a boxing license in the U.S., and in Nevada, NY, or NJ in particular, tells me he's hiding something...

                    This post notwithstanding, good thread....
