Comments Thread For: Alexander Povetkin-Dillian Whyte II: Stats & Stakes

By Cliff Rold - There's a reason the referee counts to ten. It's unavoidable when an older boxer starts hitting the deck to assume the end is near. Last August, entering as a favorite seemingly just inches from securing a long sought title shot, Dillian Whyte had to see the light at the end of the tunnel. He put Alexander Povetkin down twice in the fourth round. All he had to do was cross the finish line.

Cliff is on a role with his picks this year (25-2).... nice. Whyte has a mountain to climb as Povetkin knows what to expect and will probably adjust.

      What does 'KOBY' mean?

I see this as an electrifying match-up. The ring build-up may reveal much by way of body language - and the first round will be revealing.

I see Whyte as having to get Povetkin out of there early to erase the trauma of the first loss and vindicate himself. He needs to keep those hands high, as Povetkin loves to sneak inside and unload those hooks and uppercuts.

At the same time, Whyte will also have to be constantly aware of the range and must have a ramrod jab.

For Povetkin, he doesn't need to really change much, except be patient and wait for his opportunities, which will no doubt present themselves. He mustn't get over-excited and try to KO Whyte early, though if Whyte appears trepidatious, then reminding him of that power and accuracy might unsettle Whyte sufficiently enough to make him back peddle and go into survival mode.

No matter which way you slice this one, it guarantees fireworks.

It means rather than doing the knocking out, they were knocked out themself.

So for Povetkin, he has one KOBY. He was KO'd by Anthony Joshua, the only time he's been stopped by KO.

For Whyte, he has two KOBY. He was KO'd by Joshua and in the last fight against Povetkin.

I will win some nice money if Povetkin repeats. That means he won't.

It really would be justice though. Whyte is constantly saying ****** **** so hope he pays for it.

Somehow the russkie is a sentimental fav isn’t he? Anyway this should be a fun fight while it lasts. What are the odds of this fight going the distance?

For someone to be so even odds about fighting a 41 year old boxer, Whyte must not be very fearsome. Odds are in the air? If Whyte can't beat a 41 year old guy, how on earth can he even be relevant at all in the HW picture? This could be the last we hear about either boxer. Povetkin wins...he hangs'em up. Whyte oblivion. Whyte wins...means one more payday but will lose to top tiers.

I got Povetkiin at +250 so $75 US wins me $262.50
                Over/Under is 7 1/2 rounds at -115.
Whyte is definitely the favorite here.

Thought I give it a shot since I won big a couple of weeks ago and this is house money.

Whyte is a big favorite. He is at -357 at my book so $100 only gets you $28 profit or so for the win,

You are right though. Both these guys aren't the best of the best.

I was thinking this could go either way not that long ago, but Povetkin looked in poor shape at the weigh in and I'm now favouring Whyte. Having Covid doesn't look to have done Povetkin any favours. He's clearly the more skilled of the two, but older, smaller and looking in poor shape. Hence, I now favour pinhead Dillian for the W.
