Rocky looking to silence the critics once and for all..
DB- Rocky, what's up bro? The last time we talked was right before your fight against Marquez here in Az, How has camp been going for your anticipated rematch with Chris John?
RJ -Things been good, been a long camp. All I know is that I am ready and I can not wait to get it on.
DB- I am sure that you have watched the tape of your first fight against John, In watching the tape, how did you grade your performance in the fight? Also what do you think that you could have done different to have made it a clear win for you?
RJ- After I got cut I kind of coasted, I shouldn't have coasted though, it was bad on my part. i felt like I gave some rounds away because of that but you know you live and you learn, I won't be doing that again. Out of a 1-10 score I gave my performance a 7 1/2.
DB - Chris John is 42-0-1 and has the great Juan Manuel Marquez on his resume and now a draw against you, what would you say is Chris John's biggest strength? What in you eyes makes him undefeated?
RJ -John is an all around good fighter, he has some speed and desent power, he moves around and makes it hard at times but he is beatable that's for sure.
DB- Who have you been sparring against in your preperation against John this time around?
RJ - I have some tough guys in there that I am working with that have speed, like Hylon Williams Jr. who is a great kid and is helping me out alot.
DB- Everyone already knows that Ronnie Shields is one of the best trainers in the sport, tell us how Ronnie Shields makes Rocky Juarez a better fighter?
RJ - Ronnie makes me a a better fighter because of his experience and his confidence. A fighter needs that from his trainer. Ronnie makes you feel at ease and his own determination only drives your determination through the roof.
DB - I have always felt that the media slams you for not winning the big fights and they mention it quite often. I look at your losses and I see the 2 Barrera defeats, the Humberto Soto loss, and the Juan Manuel Marquez loss. In my opinion, I feel that they forget to see who you lost to. Barrera, Soto, and Marquez are all great fighters. What's your take on this subject?
RJ - Well you know critics need stuff to write about, it used to bother me but now it doesn't. As you mentioned Albert, I lost to great champions. The thing is that I take on all comers so has guys like Oscar De La Hoya he gets slamed too but just look at his resume. Same with Shane Mosley, when you fight the top guys, when you take on all comers it's going to be that way.
DB- I was at the Marquez fight and you were out there on pure heart and determination, I mean you were a bloody mess and you still fought like a warrior against one of the best fighters in the world, I witnessed that and then said to myself that the Rocky in him is just beginning to make an entrance. Would you consider yourself a fighter in the Arturo Gatti mold, you see blood and it makes you stronger?
RJ - I guess you could say that, the Arturo Gatti Mold, because like Gatti I just don't know how to quit and I will never learn to quit. We are warriors and seeing blood or having a swolen eye is only part of the sport.
DB- Is this fight coming up against Chris John the one to silence the critics?
RJ- For sure. It's a fight that I can not wait for. My time is now. John better be ready because if he thought he had problems on his hands before with me, well he best be ready is all I will say.
DB- Well Rock thank you for your time and keep fighting hard, do you have anything you would like to say in closing?
RJ-I will like to thank you all at Diamondboxing.com and do not miss this great event on September 19th. Thanks to all my fans for their support. I also will say that you asked me earlier who I think will win between Mayweather and Marquez, and I want Marquez to win and will be pulling for him to win but I wouldn't put my money on it because Floyd is bigger and his speed might trouble Marquez but it will be very interesting. Albert, you also asked me about how I scored Diaz vs Malignaggi, and honestly I don't play favorites and you know I don't, but being there live, I had it for Diaz. When I went home to catch the replay I had it a lil closer. Malignaggi with his speed, movement, and mobility will be a hard opponent for anybody that's for sure. I still felt that Diaz did enough to win, he landed the harder shots, ok bro well I got to get going, once again thanks alot.
