Comments Thread For: Povetkin Not Fixated on KO of Whyte, Sole Focus is Winning

WBC interim-heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin of Russia is completing his preparations for the upcoming rematch with British contender Dillian White, which after several postponements will take place on March 27 in Gibraltar. In August of last year, Povetkin was dropped twice in the fourth round - but then landed a perfect uppercut to knock Whyte out cold in the fifth.

Povetkin is talented but past his prime and covid for sure was heavy for him. I really don't like whyte but I think he's going to win this time...

Hard not to like Povetkin. No trash talk & I like the fact that you never hear him talk about anything else but the task at hand. Not sure what he has left after the first fight & covid 19. He is 41 & could this be the fight his skills diminish so rapidly that he has to hang them up? He has not talked about retirement yet but I suspect his next loss will be his last fight.

The trouble with Eddie Hearn and his two fight deals and rematch clauses is that Povetkin should be fighting the no1 in the rankings (wilder)and not Whyte at no.6 but the crooked WBC will take the money and I suppose Povetkin will earn well but when Hearn and the WBC talk of honouring mandatories they do when it suits them. Even if Whyte wins this poor PPV it doesn't say much other than last time out he was blasted out by an old faded Povetkin who has since had Covid and is a year older. There's some good fights to be made at Heavyweight , this is average.

I think Wilder has retired from boxing, he doesn't seem interested at all. He's hanging out with Yes men, twerking and acting like a "gangsta" whilst desperately hoping to get pregnant.

If Wilder wanted the fight he would make some noise. Povetkin is too good for Wilder, he isn't fond of fighting quality.

Povetkin is the interim champion. He should be the no1 in the rankings already and he should be fighting the WBC champion as soon as he's available next... not Wilder.

No 1 does not mean you're entitle to a title fight. It means you'll fight an eliminator for a mandatory.

When Povetkin and Whyte fought the first time, it was ordered by the WBC to be an eliminator. I'm not sure what it is in regards to this fight.

That was the problem with fight 1. Whyte was mandatory & if he won he still would be but due to Hearns never ending rematch clauses the mandatory didn't pass like it should have & now it's gone. Simply isn't sport any more.

I don't think Wilder is fighting anyone in the top 10 anytime soon, unless it was a shot at Fury/AJ. He'll probably take a light touch and do some rebuilding of confidence and shake off the rust.

Nope, but the fact he is Interim Heavyweight champion should mean he is entitled to a title fight.

The whole point of 'interim' titles is that it allows a title fight to happen when the true champion is unavailable and these interim titles should then disappear as soon as possible by the true champion and the interim champion competing. If that Interim title doesn't translate to a title shot then it simply should not exist.
