Comments Thread For: Vergil Ortiz: Crawford Is Hooker's Stablemate, Definitely Feel Like They're Gonna Be Studying Me

Vergil Ortiz Jr. has never been one to look beyond the opportunity in front of him, although this next one can't help but provide a reminder of what potentially lies ahead. Currently in his face is an all-Dallas showdown with former 140-pound titlist Maurice Hooker (27-1-3, 18KOs). The two collide on March 20, live on DAZN from nearby ****ies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. At stake is a regional welterweight title within the WBO, whose recognized world champion at the weight is Terence 'Bud' Crawford--who just so happens to train alongside Hooker under the tutelage of Brian 'Bomac' McIntyre.

The K.O. Kid is ready, man... At 22 yrs of age Vergil has shown to be a special talent. Ortiz dedication and discipline to boxing is 2nd to none, throw in his god given power and you have all the tools required to be the next face of boxing. Crawford ain’t an easy test for anyone but honestly feel Vergil would KO him late in a fight. Oscar might of loss the Ginger but I think Verg will be a bigger star than Canelo. I mean the kid has the biggest fan base in boxing behind him in the Mexican American crowd to go along with a very fan friendly style i.e KO’s and the ability to speak English the sky is truly the limit for him. Also, Ortiz is being trained by one of the best trainers in the sport in Robert Garcia and spars champions on a daily basis such as Mikey Garcia and Jose Ramirez as the old saying goes “iron sharpens iron”.

I can't wait for this fight! Hooker should be a very good step up for Ortiz Jr.! I hope we get Crawford vs. Porter ASAP! Can Crawford skip over #1 to fight #2?

        Bigger than Ryan Garcia?

He's mentioned Spence as well but the reason Crawford is mentioned is because Ortiz could become his mandatory very soon. Easier fight to make at the moment.

I'm looking forward to Ortiz Jr and Boots Ennis meeting up 1 day in the ring. From the outside looking in that could be a mega fight in the future.

With all of his talent, he is being carefully matched. Hooker is the perfect foil

Don't see a Crawford-Porter happening whilst Crawford is with Top Rank. Fights against Porter, Thurman and Spence are how PBC will lure Crawford to that side of the street!

Do you think he'll fight anyone in 2021? Does he sit and wait for Vergil Ortiz Jr.?

How does he get to #1, if Porter is at #1?
