it's hard to picture boxing ever having a mainstream star at level of Oscar or Roy Jones again. Boxing on its last legs. It feels like when Canelo retires, the sport will basically just retire too.

Yes, they're over fifty, and Holyfield is in the second half of fifty, but I wouldn't mind to see him and Tyson go at it, no exhibition, for a maximum of eight three minute rounds.

        Boxing will never die nerd.

Go back to watching the WWF, if you think somebody has to be a "character" to be a star. Boxing isn't about personality and personas anyway

          This is the correct answer.

Despite what many on NSB think, like Science , characters draw money. Always have, always will.

That's why Broner draws more fans than Crawford, and always will, for example.

boxing won't ever die just fade into total irrelevance.

you also have it backwards boxing is WWF. It's only about personality and personas. UFC is not because there is a single champ and every fight is towards getting to be that person regardless of whether you are marketable like Adesanya or not at all like Jan Blachowiz. Because the belts don't mean anything and the fights don't mean anything towards the big picture/the championship in boxing, it becomes only about personalities hence why everyone wants to fight Broner and Ryan Garcia.

And yet UFC fighters make a fraction of what boxers do, even for those irrelevant belts.

Its cuz no boxer has his charisma nor story. Plus fighting style, even if his opposition wasn't much better, was far more entertaining that what we see now.

Mike Tyson is among the most famous of athetes EVER. Go to any country on earth. Knock on their door. Ask them if they’ve heard of Mike Tyson. How many boxers carry that notoriety? That’s why Mike, even at his age, can still outsell every active boxer out there.
