What do you guys think about the Rocky franchise?

I didn't grow up or was even born when the movies came out. But it always seemed silly. A 5 foot Italian (whose best fighter is paulie malignaggi. I mean why not an irish dude?) Just going around beating dudes up. I mean i know one of them he learns how to be "slick" then he just keeps winning. I think idk i never seen the movies. Also the whole patriotic, russian bad movie that is rocky 4 seems pretty propaganda-ish and cheesy.

the only one I've seen was Rocky Balboa and it was awful.

what you sissies think of it?

The newer ones are really hoaky and I can't get into them at all. Not sure how many of the sequels I've ever seen but I mostly only remember the first one.

I was surprised on my initial viewing of the original Rocky film though because I was always under the impression he won the big fight in a huge comeback upset but it's just a moral victory of going the distance, which actually makes it more interesting and a less cliched story. Also, it was pretty low budget and I think there are some interesting stories around the making of it. That and it won some Oscars too, though not the be-all sign of quality or anything, I'm willing to bet they weren't as much of a joke in the '70s?

From a cinematographic point of view, the first one is the only one to watch.
It should have not won the Oscar that year.

The fans love the rocky franchise yet the critics always felt like a love hate relationship with it

I fkking love the 1st one. The 2nd one is good but they didn't need to make it, a draw from the 1st was heart warming enough. 3 onwards were terrible.

I could say the same about JAWS.

              Rocky is a masterpiece.
              Creed 2 is excellent.
Rocky III and IV are fun 80s trash.
              The rest and unwatchable garbage.

Rocky is a fantastic film and worthy of its consideration as a classic. The thing is, it isn't really a 'boxing' movie. Rocky being a boxer is somewhat incidental to his character arc.

All the other movies are complete rubbish. Maybe it's because they became more boxing-centric.

(I haven't seen the Creed movies, but I intend to)
