Two Title Fights For Two Filipinos Coming Up

Brian Viloria hopes to make boxing fans out of Hawaii while Marvin Sonsona promises to knock Jose Lopez out.
Two filipinos, one a champion and another a challenger, are set to have championship bouts.
IBF Jr. Flyweight champion Brian Viloria (25-2, 15 KOs), who won the title by knocking out Ulises Solis in the 11th round of their bout in the Philippines, is set to defend the title against unheralded Jesus Iribe (15-5-5, 9 KOs) on August 29 in his hometown Hawaii.
The Filipino-American Viloria, 28, said that he wants to use the opportunity to bring boxing back to prominence in Hawaii, where the sport has been rendered largely irrelevant since the golden days of the 80s and 90s, when Filipino boxers based in Hawaii such as Andy Ganigan and Ben Villaflor were making waves and capturing the attention of fight fans. Some local papers doubt his drawing power but the 5'4" slugger remains optimistic.
Meanwhile, 19 year-old prospect Marvin Sonsona (13-0, 12 KOs) arrives in Canada and quickly makes a statement that he intends to kayo WBO Jr. Bantamweight champion Jose "Carita" Lopez (39-7-2, 31 KOs).
Sonsona pointed out to his sacrifices in training and his desire to bring a title back to the Philippines as reasons why he would emerge victorious against his 37-year-old veteran opponent.
Also on the undercard of Viloria-Iribe, billed as "Island Assault", is fellow Filipino AJ "Tha Bazooka" Banal. Banal is engaging in another Philippines-Mexico face-off as he faces Jose Angel Beranza (32-15-2, 25 KOs).
The Sonsona-Lopez fight belongs in a card dubbed "Rumble at Rama IX", featuring Steve "The Canadian Kid" Molitor (29-1, 11 KOs) on a bout versus an extremely experienced Feliziano Ledesma (76-15-2, 64), who hails from Paraguay. Also in the same event is a heavyweight tiff between the Canadian Heavyweight Grzegorz "The Steel Pole" Kielsa (10-0, 5 KOs) and American Kevin Montiy (17-6-1, 13 KOs). The event will be held at Casino Rama, Rama, Ontario, Canada on September 4.
