Yep, even when he was a young fighter, his knowledge of Dempsey, and other boxing greats took me by surprise.
This thread doesn't, he's passionate about the game & it's history. -
Isn't he that already? Or is there some special hat & test involved in becoming one that I'm unaware of?Comment

just saying maybe he should focus on that more and educate the younger crowd....It is interesting to hear the man talk..He could be a Burt Sugar who actually boxedComment

Mike is a legit boxing historian .Learned a lot from Cus and he had access to his fight library .Comment

They should give him a TV show to discuss great fights and fighters throughout history.
Or something other than a weed smoking podcast with Jeremy Hairplugs...Comment

Mike Tyson and Tyson Fury are both very well rehearsed in boxing history. But I would say that Mike Tyson slightly surpasses Fury, because in general? I think Mike Tyson is drawn to the subject of history, he knows a lot of things even outside of boxing.
Check this out.
It is somewhere in there, I watched this awhile back.

Molineaux was actually trained by a fellow slave fighter Bill Richmond. Richmond was far more successful than Molineaux too, he earned considerable popularity in Britain as a prizefighter, so much so he was the only black man in attendance during the coronation of King George IV. Molineaux unfortunately never made the kind of money Richmond did, he became entrenched with debt and became dependent on alcohol. He died as a pauper in his mid 30’s. Very sad story, definitely worth looking into.Comment

Mike may not have truly looked into Molineaux, he knows the peripherals but not the full context. A lot of his fights before coming to the UK are undocumented. He was never actually champion of America or held any official title. There’s also little proof that he literally fought his way too freedom via plantation fights. The story goes his owner bet 100 grand on him to defeat a fellow slave fighter from a rival plantation. Molineaux won and as a reward he was granted his freedom and given $500 cash like Mike said. However, this very well could have been romanticised.
There’s a great book by Nat Fleischer called Black Dynamite if people are interested in this sort of stuff.Comment
