    Rodel Mayol Determined Not To Be 'Malignaggied'

    Rodel Mayol determined not to be 'Malignaggied'

    August 26, 4:02 PM Indianapolis Fight Sports Examiner Dennis "dSource" Guillermo

    Yes. Rodel Mayol wants to knock Ivan Calderon out at the first sign the opportunity presents itself. And yes, I just made up my own word.
    ================================
    dSource's Dictionary:
    ma-lig-nag-gied [mah-lee-nah-jeed]
    –verb (used with object)

    1. to be mislead by a false statement; delude.
    2. to be dealt a controversial decision in a boxing match.
    3. to be given an unfair judgment.
    sentence: They malignaggied the predator by disguising the 50-year-old FBI agent as a high school freshman. What an idiot!
    slang: to be "screwed from behind"
    ===================================
    When Rodel Mayol (25-3-1, 19 KOs) steps into the ring on September 12 against Ivan Calderon (32-0-1, 6 KOs), Mayol will not only be trying to capture the WBO light flyweight title which he and a lot of other people who saw the fight felt he won during his first bout with Calderon, he will also be entering hostile territory when he goes in to Calderon's backyard of San Juan, Puerto Rico where the bout is scheduled.

    With the recent "hometown gifts" being awarded to fighters lately, Mayol is aware of the possibility that he too may befall the same fate as Paulie "The Magic Man" Malignaggi did last Saturday in Houston against Juan Diaz where one Texas-based judge named Gale Van Hoye scored the highly competitive fight which a lot of experts thought Malignaggi won, in favor of hometown boy Diaz 118-110. Diaz won via unanimous decision and fight fans agreed that it was also a unanimous travesty. Not that Diaz won, as I too could lean that way, but because of the margin and manner which the judges scored the fight.
    Mayol told boxingscene.com's Ronnie Natanielsz,
    I will try to win every round convincingly so judges won't have a hard time choosing the winner, which is me,"
    and added,
    "I won't predict to win by knock out, but if there's an opportunity, I will go for the knockout."
    Mayol is confident and unfazed by the thought of facing Calderon in-front of his raucous and wild hometown crowd. In a separate interview Mayol did with 8countnews.com's Brad Cooney, the Filipino fighter said,
    "I have a lot of experience fighting out of my hometown- Japan, Indonesia, Mexico- so I've been fighting there in my opponents' hometown so it doesn't matter to me what town it is. I just focus on the fight."
    Mayol may have a hard time getting a knock out victory against Calderon though as the undefeated Puerto Rican champ vows to return to his old fighting style which is to hit-and-run and not get hit which he abandoned in their first fight in exchange for a more aggressive fighting style in response perhaps to fans and promoter Bob Arum's comments that his fights are not exciting and can't be shown on TV or Pay-per-View.
    “I made many mistakes in the other fight when I wanted to impress my fans and those watching TV, but this time, I’m going to do my job. My boxing style is to hit and not get hit," said Calderon.
    As if fighting an undefeated champion isn't challenge enough, Mayol will have to deliver the performance of his life to overcome the preverbial "hometown advantage" and avoid being "Paulie Malignaggied".
    Here's hoping the best man on fight night wins!

    Writer's Note: I am scheduled to interview Paulie Malignaggi tomorrow and Rodel Mayol sometime this week. Bodog.com has Mayol at +375 in their betting lines. Which means a bet of 100 on Mayol will win you 375 if Mayol wins.
