it's because it was a very close fight much closer than this paulie -diaz fight which even though was a close fight paulie was clearly the victor where as the cotto-clottey fight was more of a toss up and clottey more or less gave the fight to cotto for not doin much in the last 3 rounds
Why is no body giving Juan Diaz any credit?

He looked bad.For fighting with a bad cut and blood all over his eye for 9 rounds? For moving up to Jr Welter and fighting a close effective fight against a former Jr Welter champion much bigger than him? I have seen absolutely no one give Diaz some credit. I remember every one and their mom was on here praising Cotto for fighting with a bad cut for 9 rounds, being a "warrior" so to speak. I thought all of you embraced warriors?
Many expected this to be a tune-up for him.
Not to mention he has finished school so is supposedly now has no distractions from boxing.
The fight was entertaining Ill hive him that but he wasnt impressive.Comment

paulie got cut 1st in this fight then diaz 2 rounds later which was the 3rd round the cut was in a bad spot but was not that bad of a cut then juan gets another cut in the 5th which seemed to be the cut that actually caused problems, so if diaz would have decided to stop the fight after the cut that happened in round 3 he would of lost by tko because the cut was caused by a punch, in the miguel fight his cut was much worst and was caused by a butt so if cotto would of decided to stop the fight it would of been ruled no contest but cotto decided to continue fighting even though he could of got out of the fight without suffering alossFor fighting with a bad cut and blood all over his eye for 9 rounds? Cotto's cut was huge and much bigger than Diaz's. The commentators were saying in round 8 and 9 "They should seriously consider stopping the fight." I don't think Diaz's was as bad. I do give credit for at least fighting with it because I thought Diaz just couldn't handle cuts.Comment

First of all Cotto was fighting Clottey with a BAD GASH above his eye..Diaz was fighting Malignaggi with a DECENT sized CUT about his..
Clottey hits much harder..applies more pressure..and is more precise with his shots!..his rights were MAGNETS to Cotto's left eye..
Juan Diaz had a weight drained, one handed, feather fisted, back pedaling fighter in front of him..and he got outworked and outpunched and was getting tagged clean ALL NIGHT!..
**** was sad..Nate Campbell put this man in the Coffin and JMM nailed that ***** shut!..Diaz should stick to his attorney goals IMO..he's a good fighter..but I can't see him getting anyone great on his resume..Comment

Diaz doesn't get credit because he proved he isn't very good, and that's more important than whether or not he's a "warrior". An elite fighter would have beaten Malignaggi without needing a fix, cut or no cut.For fighting with a bad cut and blood all over his eye for 9 rounds? And Cotto never deserved credit to begin with. Why should you get credit for fighting with a cut? Thats the bare minimum, you should be EXPECTED to do that. But just like even Teddy Atlas realized, even though Cotto didn't throw in the towel it was obvious he WANTED to quit, and he would have quit if Clottey had pushed him over the edge. Instead Clottey stopped throwing any punches and let Cotto off the hook.Comment

The reason he is not getting credit is because he lost the fight and was awarded a gift decision. He got all the "credit" he deserved from the biased hometown judges. For fighting with a bad cut and blood all over his eye for 9 rounds? weight drained for making him dehydrate 10lbs? outworked? he got outlanded by 13 punches in the end. getting tagged all night? diaz was the one landing the powere punches, outlanding paulie in that division. there is something wrong with you if you include the words "all night" anywhere in your arguments, neither fighter was tagging one another all night. diaz was slipping alot of punches and blocking with his gloves. malignaggi landed 191 of 949, holy **** will you look at all those missed punches. diaz was more accurate landing 178 out of 663.First of all Cotto was fighting Clottey with a BAD GASH above his eye..Diaz was fighting Malignaggi with a DECENT sized CUT about his..
