Here's a hypothetical situation on this hometown judging bull**** that I think really puts things into perspective.....
Say Marquez never knocked out Diaz in Houston that night, right?
Say it went to the cards, and all the judges had Diaz winning. Or even just two of them and he got a split decision instead of a unanimous one, right?
Marquez is what, 36?
And he's just been jobbed.
He has what, 1 or 2 good fights left before he retires?
Who will want to fight him?
He just lost.
Doesn't matter if he really did or not.
On paper ; he lost. And that's all that matters in this sport at the end of the day.
So now Marquez is back to square 1 again ; toiling in obscurity because he can't get a big fight just like he did for the majority of his career.
And instead of being in the position he's in now fighting Mayweather and making the biggest payday of his career ; he's fighting some jobber on ESPN for peanuts to cap off his career.
This judging bull**** can have far reaching effects under the proper circumstances.
I really feel for Paulie, now.Comment

I never doubted Paulies heart, however I did think that he was past it, he prooved me wrong last night, and he won that fight. I was rooting for Diaz and gave Diaz almost all of the swing rounds and I still had paul winning. **** Texas. Paulie could have had a crack at Tim Bradley with a win, and now the poor guy will probably have to fight on an undercard against an unheralded opponent.Comment

If Malignaggi's rant draws even a tiny bit of negative attention to this kind of bullcrap, he should be be propped for his balls in running his mouth loudly before and after the fight.
What I'm pleased with is that Paul did his part exactly as he said he would and put it on Diaz, so giving us a clear as daylight indictment of the bull**** that goes down.
In obviously having negative feelings about the fight beforehand, he never got discouraged or let his head drop. I love that.Comment

Yep, great post. You nailed it.

A good example of that was the fight between Augustus and Figueroa. Figueroa clearly lost that one but his record was still fairly decent at 19-2 and I assume the judges took that into consideration when scoring the fight.
Afterall, it's hard to market a guy with so many losses like Augustus.
And you should be proud of him ; not only did he talk the talk, he walked the walk.
I hopeful his rant has inspired other fighters to speak their peace as well when the time comes that they find themselves on the ****ty end of the stick when it comes to judges.
Maybe if enough guys speak out about it things will make a change for the better.Comment

But he wouldn't be getting the career high payday that he's earned against Mayweather now, had he lost.
He would've been on an undercard or on "Boxing After Dark" against a random top 10 opponet for a fraction of that.
And with a guy like that at the end of his career, that would be a damn shame to have to end your career like that.
Hypothetically, of course.Comment
