    The man to beat Cotto...

    Junior Witter - 31 (19)-1-2

Saw the Cotto-Corley fight... must admit, I could barely see the shot that wobbled Cotto, the ref's back seemed to be in the way. Anyone got a copy on MPG? Trying to make a compilation...

Stoppage premature? Maybe, but the ref seemed fair up to that point, so I don't know. It is his job to protect the fighters after all, and Corley should have made it clear that his first drop (in that round) was caused by a low blow.

Corley at least showed future Cotto opponents a blueprint... good fight.

    hmm

I don't think it's a stretch at all to say Witter could beat Cotto. I've never seen Witter fight but I gather that he is underrated and he knocked down N'dou twice (something Cotto could not do) and pretty much dominated N'dou whereas Cotto fought on even terms with him for most of the fight.

I also think that Gatti, Mayweather, Tsyzu, Hatton, and Harris could beat Cotto.

slow motion shows it wasnt even close to a low blow.Corely made it seem like it was though atleast I thought it was till the replay. It was a clean shot to the body that dropped him and it was prematurley stopped but it would have been the same result later in the fight.

I missed the ref's instructions. Did he say the belt line was okay? If he did it wasn't low. Either way it wasn't so low as to force him to drop. I think his feet weren't set well and he half lost his balance while a punch was landing. Still, according to the rules that is a knockdown. That being said it was prematurely stopped. I haven't heard one person think otherwise. But he had little chance to win this fight. He might have been able to take it when he wobbled Cotto but he needed to be more agressive. Not crazy, just more determined to put him out.
