GBP; professionals or a buncha amateurs

What is everyones take on Golden Boy Promotions? Do they know what they are doing or as christian bale would put it; a buncha ****ing amateurs?

    Consider their recent moves;

Reschedules the marquez vs counterfeit cash on the same night as a UFC card. Puts the fight on ppv. tries to prop up a suppose "great" undercard.

Schedules baby bull vs pauli malignaggi (a match up that could turn the fight ugly or even worse beat diaz) at Houston in the toyota center the same night as the HOuston Texans pre season opener vs the saints.

Even GBP's past history is shaky, like the way they handled trying to sign manny pacquiao. Oscar trying to cheap his way into signing a budding star by taking him to a steakhouse then giving him a suitcase full of $250,000 cash (not in large bills but in 20s & 10 dollar bills i heard) only to have their biggest rival trump them by signing pacquiao with millions (oscar's cheapness strikes yet again).

They have never developed a young fighter into elite superstar level championship fighter, nor do they have any young up & coming talent close to being a elite championship level fighter.

Their money maker are still old on the brink of retirement boxing stars such as hopkins, mosley, marquez, & mr.counterfeit cash (if u count him)

Their lone ppv show without the backing of HBO (marquez vs casamayor) bombed ppv wise & gatewise.

Is Golden Boy all flash (oscar's name) & no substance?

    poll coming...
    8
    they know what their doing
    75.00%
    6
    christian bale level fvcking amateurs
    25.00%
    2

    The poll is expired.

i forgot about the adamek & berto lowball offers. oscar's cheapness is infecting their negotiating tactics like the swine flue infects a malnourished child with a weak immune system.

They're not amateurs, but they can't come close to some of the other promoters, in terms of fighter development. Top Rank, DiBella, and a few other Euro promoters would have taken some of the fighters that didn't pan out with GBP to a title.

Victor Ortiz would be a titlist. Give em time though, they'll learn, they have one of the 2 best stables, the most tv dates, and sponors so they're doing something right.

i think the issue is their ties with HBO... they have a big ego because HBO gives them almost all of their dates, so if a competitor wants to fight on HBO they have to take what LBP gives them as the offer...

if HBO were more open, then LowBall would have to be more competitive...

the analogy i would have used would compare GBP to AIG. where regardless of how many times or how hard they fail.....they keep asking for bailouts from the govt (other promotions like top rank or gary shaw) only to keep lining the pockets of Oscar, Schaefer and select few executives while screwing the public and the rest of its employees.

Don't blame that on them. Go back and read some reports on that so you'll see that Hopkins and Mosley insisted on those offers not the brain trust.

Mosley wanted at least 2+ mil for Berto because that's what he got against Margarito, but their was only like 3 mil in the pot.

Hopkins insisted on giving Adamek a flat 400k. That's why Shcaefer is doing the negotiating. Hopkins and Mosley are 2 vets that ask for whatever they want.

GBP is known for making big fights, you can't get on them for that.

if they are hinging their bets on victor ortiz they are in trouble. sure he might get a title (how hard is that?). they have all the tv dates but no fighters or fights worthy of those tv dates.

Their biggest prospect in terms of stars is charged with a fed crime. they got the short end of the stick in the pac ruling, they dont hang on to valero who might be getting ready to be licensed in vegas & is about ready to become a star, they have no real stable.

Their stable is solid, after TR it's the best so if they're bad then that's the entire industry. They mostly have old stars and prospects, but they have a huge weakness in their scouting and matchmaking.

Kirkland will be out next Spring (says Dan Rafael).

As long as they keep getting the most tv dates (especially with HBO) and the most sponsors, top fighters will keep going to them. get used to them.

that's great news about kirkland. he's one of my favorites. they need to snatch up gamboa, pwill, & arreola. tv dates can only do so much. u need great fighters & great fights.

as for their horrible matchmaking, what do you expect if your matchmaker is a former taco vendor & oscar childhood friend?
