these two need to stop with the back n' forth. I hope no one entertains the fight between these two.

Also Toney was at cruiserweight when Hopkins was undisputed, and soon went up to HW, how the **** were they supposed to fight in totla different weight divisions.
Very nice points on Tarver. Great win for Hopkins - second biggest next to Tito.

I do remember serious negotiations for Toney and Hopkins but Hopkins walking away in the end because of King's share. He sure had a lot of beef with the Don. That would have been a great fight but, ultimately, that version of Toney would have been too big, too strong and too skilled for even B-Hop.

I think so too, but unfortunately I don't see them agreeing to 50/50. But much as I respect him as a fighter, I think Hopkins is the real culprit here. If he offered Roy 50/50 I'm pretty sure Jones would accept. (And his refusal to entertain the idea of 60/40 to whoever wins makes him look bad) And Hopkins' bluster about not needing Jones is just bluster. No one "needs" anyone else, but now that Jones is flavour of the month again, avenging his defeat to him is undoubtedly by far the best legacy fight available to Bernard right now.

No. There is no way beating Jones, Who hasn't won a meaningful fight in 6 years and has no title would mean more then beating Dawson or Adamek. Two guys with real titles who are real challenges. Sorry but that's bull****.

Do you not see the pattern? Roy beats on no hopers, gets knocked out bad. Fights a top LHW in Johnson, almost dies in the ring. He then fights Babalu Ajajamu, Hanshaw struggles and wins. Then he fights a no hoper Trinidad who was fat as hell, and out of the game for 5 years wins, claims that he is back and will fight the elite competition anytime and dominate like he used to in his prime. When he does face an elite LHW, he gets beat up for 12 brutal rounds. Everyone says he is shot and says he will lose to the elite fighters. He then fights a SHOT bum in Shieka who ****** to begin with and looks great, then he faces a man who was never good and on top of that shot in Lacy, and now claims that he is back again. Listen you guys are setting yourselves up for disappointment. The Shieka and Lacy fights were smoke and mirror illusions. Roy WILL lose to any elite fighter he faces like has been the case for the past 5 years.
Lacy might not of been good at all and the surgeries didnt help, but he also lost to 2 boxers that beat B-hop. Like i dont know if this thread is about Roy Jones jr. legitmacy as a threat in the LHW division or if its about the conversation the link took us to between b-hop and roy. Im gonna talk about the latter half of that.

Bernard does not under any circumstances want to fight Roy and its not because Roy has been knocked out twice and is a former shell of himself. Bernard gives those hints throughout the interview. Read between the lines, " Why should i put myself in a position to give him a chance to put himself in the spotlight, when i just started making money." please

What about having some pride? I mean if its easy money for him to be a former shell of himself in Roy Jones then just do it. Isnt Roy the man that beat your ass with 1 hand after the 4th rd back in 93. When Bernard was making history with all those successful title defenses (20) in a row, the general public didnt even know not because Bernard was washed up, but because he was living in Roy Jones shadow. Roy was a 1st ballot HOF before he got knocked out, so why he talks about reigning as the all time middleweight great, you never heard of him cause Roy was on HBO looking dam ****ing good, despite the subpar competition.

Now I like both fighters, and i know a bit about bernard cause im from jersey and travel to philadelphia a bit. I know the pride of the city, fighters from philly are suppose to exhibit courage and heart. Now Roy made a good point about him not chasing bernard, cause he would rather be the guys that beat him. "Lets repeat that", a former champion wants to rectify his name and reclaim his position as the best by doing whats necessary inside of the ring. Even after Roy lost his 3rd fight, i gave him credit for taking it because he wanted revenge on the fighter that beat him.

Bernard is acting like a straight up *****! He's playing the politics of boxing outside the ring, cause truth be told, he doesnt want to fight Roy inside of it. Listen to the interview if you havent, cause its a lot longer than the excerpts they used as examples for this topic.

Bernard is more concerned with Roy going on "record' and saying that he's taking 40%. WTF, is he even thinking about the losers portion for. Roy is standing his ground, not bernard. Bernard has leverage, but it should come from Golden Boy, cause on top of the 40% he wants roy to take, golden boy will decide the size of the ring, the gloves the fighters wear, the judges, the referee, the venue, and who comes down the ring 1st and all that other bull**** that their playing with Paulie Malignaggi and his fight with Juan Diaz.

So i completely understand why roy wouldnt take 40% because at the end of the day, he already knows that bernard will get every other advantage not just the 60%. And be real, its not as hard to divide that money as people think, just pay everybody else, trainers, cutman, etc.., from the total purse of the fight, and the remaining money, would get split 60% to the winner and 40 to the loser. Trust me it can happen but unfortunately for fight fans it wont. This is what happens when an older fighter whoops a overrated fighter (kelly pavlik) who never faced a guy with a decent jab, and force him to move up 10lbs in weight. Bernard exposed Kelly, good for him, but the same way we shouldnt give Roy credit for beating a Jeff Lacy, im not giving him credit for beating a weight drained Tarver (who in between his last fight to johnson and filming the Rocky move, had to lose 35 to 40lbs of muscle, in 5months).

Bernard was very good at side stepping the issue at hand. Using the fact the Roy got knocked out twice by guys he beat, and thats true, but your not one of the guys that knocked him out. So what were you trying to do this entire time, follow the path Roy went down by beating fighters that he lost to, then claiming the ole if fighter a, beats fight b, and fighter b beats fighter c, then we should assume that fighter a would beat fighter c too. he's playing mind games with the fans to make us think that Roy isnt on his level, when in all reality, Roy is very much on his level because Bernard has a hard time dealing with guys who are faster than him. Nothing roy does in or out the ring can change that, calzaghe, roy jones, jermaine taylor, all gave hopkins fits.

not to mention, in order to want the lion's share you have to prove to be a bigger draw. To this day, Roy still brings in more to the box office, than bernard ever did, and that has to count for something too. Bernard is trying to let roys prior failures talk him out of a fight that boxing fans deserve. I can hear in his voice, and its about the confidence displayed by both men, not the politics of boxing. Roy is more interested in fighting him than bernard is of fighting him at all. Roy dont cry, your a 1st ballot hof, even after you got knocked out twice.

Bernard is playing the safe route, by trying to convince you that moving up to face slow as Thomas Adamek, is more of a challenge than facing the guy who whopped your ass 16years ago. Im not saying that after i saw Roy against lacy' hes ready for elite competion, hell no, im not saying that the old roy is back, not even close, what im saying is that Roy would be bernard hopkins now or then, and if you listen to the interview, Bernard knows it too.
