Good point i go long with that McCallum was a fight to see if Collins could compete at the highest level, as he got older he became more clever in his own words keep it simple work of a jab etc, id see an epic between Watson/Collins prime for prime i would go long with UD for Watson in 91 be pretty much like Benn, but i think a 95 fight would be chess match for first 6 to 8 if Watson can deal with Collins Rugged style & toughness he be it would be level going into chamionship rounds but thats where Collins would have his moments & beat Watson yes he could take him out depending on how much he takes out of Watson in the early rounds, man it would have been great.

Shame they never awarded Micheal Watson a title for his fight for life, like they did Rubin Carter's fight for freedom the man deserves it 1 round from it & robbed in the first Eubank fight.

It was one of the worst decisions ever and a clear robbery. Most people in the audience thought that Watson had won clearly and that there was no doubt who'd get the decision. I've watched the documentary about it. Watson's mother was congratulated by some people before the verdict was announced!

Back to Collins/Watson fight...Watson beat a prime Eubank, a hungry and strong 25 yearold in peak condition. Collins also beat a prime Eubank, no matter what any Eubank nuthuggers may say! So it's pretty impossible to say who woulda won. Both had a very good chin. Collins was just a little tougher than Watson altogether because he just couldn't be broken. So if the fight turned out to be a brawl, a slugfest, then Collins would win. But I doubt Watson would let himself be drawn into a slugfest, knowing what kind of fighter Collins is. So he'd try to box him, stay on the outside and counterpunch. In that case it would be a terribly close fight.

Jesus thats bad, it was clearly done as Eubank was more out spoken with the press the powers that be swung that fight for Eubank, don't understand Watson not getting the press coverage that Benn & Eubank got he beat Benn easy that was enough to put right up there & the robbery, the sun also wrote an articale on the fight saying Watson was robbed & won the fight by 5 rounds at least prob Colin Heart that wrote the articale.

Yes its a question of styles how that fight would go, its which ever 1 prefers to go with id say either could win so hard to slpit them they were the best of, Eubank ' Benn & that age certainly in Britain.

I think its fair to say Calzaghe would pose probs for all the fighters mentioned, his speed of hand & adaptabilty are great & his will to win.

The problem was that Watson won all the early rounds and the middle rounds, but Eubank came on strong in the last 4 rounds or so. That may confuse some judges and make their outlook on the whole fight clouded, as well as impress them. And Eubank was so popular. Watson didn't have a large fanbase, not as large as Eubank. But Watson won that fight with at least 116-111. Just as you said.

Calzaghe would be a challenge for both Collins and Watson. But they would also pose a challenge for him.

Watson would have beaten Collins. Different league.

Eubank-Watson I wasn't a robbery. Eubank won the first five rounds.

He so did not! He won one or two of the middle rounds, thats all! You gotta be ****** or blind if you don't see Watson winning the first 2 rounds clearly.

Im afraid you'll have turn on that as the news papers of time, next day had a robbery for Watson Colin Hart for the sun wrote he clearly won the fight by 5 rounds at least, now we all can't be wrong & ringside journalists.
Keep your mind open about Collins been beaten by Watson remember his toughness he went in with the best, where Watson was strenchered out Collins done 12 rounds with McCallum in Collins' words he said of McCullam he was the best boxer he ever faced.

Yeah and why was Eubank so pissed at Watson before the second fight? It was obvious he knew that he had really lost the first fight and that bothered him a lot! He was really aggressive toward Watson in the prefight talk.

I therefore put Michael Watson as the most underated boxer ever on my list. Remember? The second time it was a miracle that saved Eubank from defeat, to put it that way although that sounds wrong in the context of what happened later.

I think either Watson or Calzaghe could win. Or it would be a draw. If it happened in say, 1996 or 97, then I don't know if Watson would still be as good and strong as he was 1989-91. But sadly, we never got to find out. What a huge loss to the sport of boxing, British boxing especially.

One more thing; lets not forget Watson had 21 KO's of 25 wins on his record, so that means he would have a chance of stopping Calzaghe. Although with Joe's chin I doubt he would. He could hurt him tho.

Id say thats a slight exaggeration, did you not give Eubank at least 5 rounds of the 1st fight ?

Yea, but a fight is 12 rounds. I give Eubank 4 rounds.
