Cotto vs Pacquiao: A Boxing Match?

I was recently speaking with a friend of mine about the upcoming bout between Miguel Cotto & Manny Pacquiao and once we got over the typical "Cotto is gonna kill that little guy" & "Pac Man is too fast for Cotto" jibberish we actually talked about the fight not being a gun fight/ slug fest but a technical boxing match.

I know Manny has improved vastly on his boxing skills as well as Cotto over their past 5 fights....and my question to all of you is IF this fight turns out actually to be a "boxing" match, whom do you think this style of fight would benefit most?

I think Technically Cotto is a more sound fighter..

His jab is nearly perfect!..his footwork and defense are very very good!..and his hooks are..well we all know his most powerful weapon..

Pacquiao has improved alot..but he relies more on his speed+power then actual skill..don't get me wrong tho..he's highly skilled..but if it were broken down to categories..I feel Cotto takes the cake on who can actually fight a more technically skilled fight..

I can't tell right now because Manny boxed DLH pretty good I know he was drained or whatever but Manny looked great punching with angles speed footwork DLH couldn't hit him cause he wasn't there to be hit moving his head while he punched so who knows.

I agree. I think his last 3 fights have really improved him and added to his boxing skills. Shane is a very, very good boxer and he beat him, however close some might think it was. He definatly won. Cotto has a great jab, can time his opponents well, does good with lefty's, and can cut off the ring very nicely. Plus he has one punch KO power. He's a brawler and a boxer.

He thinks strategically well on his feet, backs off when he needs to, (Cotto haters call this bike riding or running away), because he hates clinching or being clinched, so he retreats for a moment to get a breather. He threw Clotteys ass to the canvas when he jumped on him...he was like "get the **** off me!"

i agree with cotto probably taking the cake.. but not by much... i'll tell you one thing.. cotto better not try to box cause if he does, he's not gonna get the decision no matter how many punches he lands.. he needs a knockout to win this fight..

If they box, Pac is too damn fast for Cotto. He needs to disrupt Pac wit his jab and jump on him. Don't stop at the jab and a quick flurry here n there to score points. Cotto gotta use his size to win a rough fight, not try to outbox Pac.

Thats why I gave Pac the boxing nod. He needs to box in order to beat Cotto, no way will he last long fighting inside against Cotto, he's too damn big and tough for Pac.

I predict that Pac will be fighting much like he did in DLH, turning Cotto and coming in for flurries when his angles open up.
