    Nevada to consider instant replay

Instant replay might be coming to Nevada.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission will consider at its regulation hearing Wednesday a proposal to institute for the first time limited instant replay for boxing and MMA.

If approved, it would be used only after a fight ends as a result of a cut or possible foul and is inconclusive. The referee would have the option, based on his own volition or a protest, to review the ending and make the proper decision.

It would never be used during fights because officials want to preserve the structure of the sport, three minutes of fighting and one minute of rest.

“We’re talking about an injury that stops a fight immediately,” said Keith Kizer, executive director of the NSAC. “Was it due to a lawful punch or due to a foul? If it was a foul, was it unintentional or intentional. Then you decide if it’s a TKO or a no-contest or if you go to the scorecards, whatever the proper procedure is.”

Kizer said the Steven Luevano-Bernabe Concepcion fight on Saturday in Las Vegas is an example of a fight that would be reviewable under slightly different circumstances.

In reality, Concepcion knocked out Luevano with a punch that clearly came after the bell. However, if it weren’t so clear, the referee could check the replay and determine after the fact when the punch was thrown and then make the proper call.

Another example would be the Timothy Bradley-Nate Campbell fight on Aug. 1 in Palm Desert, Calif. In that fight, , referee David Mendoza ruled that Campbell’s cut – which ended the fight – was caused by a punch and gave Bradley a TKO victory. If Mendoza had instant replay, he would’ve seen that it was caused by a butt and ruled a no-contest.

“A situation like that could very well be a situation to look at,” said Kizer, referring to Bradley-Campbell. “If it looks like it should’ve gone the other way, the call can be overturned. If the replay is inconclusive, then the call would stand like in the NFL.”

Kizer said that instant replay, if approved by the commission, could go into use around the time of the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Juan Manuel Marquez fight on Sept. 19 at the MGM Grand.

“That could be the first show under the new regulations or the last under the old regulations,” he said.

I think it's inevitable and a good thing. That Bradley v Campbell farce made everyone look ****** and mostly Boxing look crooked and ******.
