Just Watched Benn/McClellan for the 1st time

So I finally watched Nigel Benn vs Gerald McClellan for the 1st time and I have some thoughts on it.....First what a great fight and Benn has a huge heart to have gotten out of that first round with McClellan and come back to win the fight. I know many think Gerald was damaged goods at that point, but still it was a great win for Benn, and most fighters would have been finished that 1st round. Also in the 1st round I think the ref did Benn some huge favors in keeping Gerald at a distance for too long when breaking up the action, but who knows maybe Benn would have gotten through the round anyway.
I also found it interesting how the tables turned during the course of the fight and McClellan was using plenty of footwork and consistently using the jab being more of the boxer while Benn was pursing the action acting like the puncher when it was supposed to be the opposite in the minds of many.
It was really too bad how hurt McClellan was after that fight, and Benn fought very dirty in that one without admonishment from the ref I noticed. For those who have not seen that fight, go watch it and notice how many rabbit punches Benn gets away with in the fight. He also acted like kind of a douche when the fight was over in the interview and it was also sickening how Don King was on his jock afterwards while McClellan was layed out in the corner. I also hope there is a special place reserved in hell for that slimeball Don King, he is the kind of guy who if you dropped a dollar would pocket it even though he is excessively wealthy by way of others work.....sorry for the rant there.....any thoughts opinions?

The fight itself is one of the greatest of all time.

    2 great fighters.

Personally I do think McClellan was damaged goods before the fight and it started to show as early as round 2.
What can you say.....tragic what happened.

I hope Gerald's sons who are boxers will turn pro and have good careers to make life easier for the old man.

Yeah, I've read Benns autobiography, hes is truely remorseful about the McCllelan fight and the way he acted.

Both guys were fouling, McCllelans punches strayed low quite a few times. Benns heart and warrior spirit got him through that fight. Benns never really been a boxer he's always been a puncher if anything most people expected McCllelan to box better because he had the better ability when he wanted to use it.

Amazing fight, between two warriors. It's a shame the ending is so horrible. I personally don't think he was damaged good and most if not all the damage was done in the fight with Benn.

One of my favourite fights, but it's hard to watch just because of the ending. Two warriors just putting their all into it.

ya i recently rewatched this fight even tho the endings pretty saddening the fight is so unreal. a first round from heaven or hell for each fighter then benn solves the puzzle and gerald starts to go on the back foot a bit. its hard for me to say wether gerald was damaged goods by that point but it was 1 hell of a fight

Best and worst fight ive ever watched, apart from the harsh end it had everything knockdowns both men taking huge bombs both men fight back form killer beatdowns it was everything you wanted in a fight untill the last round and it became shocking more than anythng. Benn was a **** after in the interview but lets not forget his testostarone level after winning the most brutal fight in his carear would have been buzzing his **** off

NOTE:- Also the first fight i ever fully watched when i was a kid and what got me into boxing
