yea, that may be a little harsh to say...but after all the injury stuff etc..i have a feeling hes taking time off to reevaluate himself as a person and his place in the sport of boxing..when i watched his fight with rubio although rubio didnt put up much of a fight i noticed a change in pavlik's personality in the ring. for instance when rubio had his back on the ropes i could see hesitation on pavlik's part..it seemed he couldnt pull the trigger on some occasions, almost as if he was having flashbacks of bernard in front of him..like he was worried about getting countered like he was being countered by hopkins. in my opinion kelly pavlik is not the same fighter or person for that matter. i dont think hes mentally or emotionally strong enough to be a fighter anymore. but hey like i said this is my opinion..and it may sound a little harsh to say a world champion may retire, but there is something people have to realize, we are all human beings including boxers, and some may take a loss different than others. i mean he looked like a bum with a good chin against hopkins..and im sure kelly has gone back and looked at the fight tape and it still haunts him. but anyway let me know what you guys think..like i said this may sound harsh but ive noticed a big difference in pavlik since the hopkins fight.
I have a feeling Kelly Pavlik is going to retire.

I find it hard to believe that he's done. Its not like he's won many millions boxing. WTF is he gonna do if he quits?
He was undefeated prior to getting his ass handed to him by hopkins. He might not be the same mentally and he may have just felt that he didn't need to take the risks against rubio. Remember Rubio has a 75 percent KO percentage. (yeah I had to look it up). He was dominating Rubio and had no reason to take any huge risks.
Just watched the replay on the last round. Rubio was still landing some good shots early in the round. Pavlik isn't thinking about retiring most likely just thinking about the ass beating Williams will lay on him. Jesus I had forgotten just how slow Pavlik's hands are.Last edited by truushot; 08-18-2009, 02:11 PM.Comment
