I Saw Jeff Lacy’s Face… Now I’m a Believer

I just think Roy fans want people to give Roy credit for fighting a good fight. Hes not back, but man if I didn't know better I would have thought he lost...all the articles and posts are negative.Comment

I will give him credit for putting on a good performance. It is certainly his best performance in a long time.
For a fighter who is in his 40's, his handspeed is still something to watch.

Roy fought a Great fight against Lacy and completly dominated him. I was impressed because i thought it would be more of a fight and i didn't belive Roy still could pull off seven punch combos and dominate over that many rounds.
As previous posters pointed out i don't see why people almost seem angry with Roy for this performance. No one said it was some top contender he beat but it was a really good entertaining fight and if Roy can deliver that and want's to do it a few more times before he retiers i will be happy to watch it.
Roy seems to have found a new joy in what he is doing since somewhere around the Hanshaw fight and forward. He puts a lot of effort into promotion, interviews and putting togheter fightcards and he really seems to enjoy it all. Im happy for that and hope we will see more of this before Roy decides to hang up the gloves.Comment

Once and for all, noone is saying that Roy is back. Thats impossible. At his best, he is the greatest of all time, completely untouchable, unbeatable and he definately would have finished off Lacy in round one, as easy as it was for him to hit him.
I am saying that he showed alot more ability against Lacy than Jermaine Taylor did. And IMO both he and Taylor are better than Froch, Taylor just ran out of energy.
Basically at 40 hes still good enough to be relevant. Still good enough to get into the ring with any fighter in the world if he trains properly. Still good enough for me to shell out money to see him over every fighter out there accept for 1 or 2.Comment

I'm not ready to drink the cool aid, having said that I grew up watching Roy and in his prime in my estimation he was unbeatable. A 40 year old, so called washed up fighter put down at the time a top 3 pound for pound fighter(Calzhage) in the first round, a prime Roy does more than just put him down, he puts him out.
If people choose to dismiss Roy's latest performance, then use the exact same logic and dismiss the win Calzhage has over him, because by all account Calz fought a washed up, faded fighter correct?
2 fights in with his father and I am willing to say that I see something different about Roy, reminiscent of his younger days. Hard to put a finger on it and by no means am I saying he will again take boxing by storm, but he seems to more comfortable than I've seen him in a long time, having his father back in his corner. He is letting his hands go and taking chances again. I'm not ready to say that he beats the top fighters, but I am convinced he will give them all hell before it's said and done and that says a lot about a so-called washed up 41 year old fighter. And FYI this version of Jones beats Hopkins again.Last edited by switchsouthpaw; 08-18-2009, 05:16 PM.Comment
